The stat "Hit Rate" - which I understand to be the same as BABIP - how does this factor into the algorithm?

If it is a function in the algorithm - obviously a high BABIP (Batting Average on Balls in Play) is preferable - since RL luck etc will be factored in to the SIM. But if it is not a function of the algorithm - would it be preferable to choose a batter lower BABIP (assuming all other stats are equal), since this indicates that his raw skills are better than his numbers indicate - kind of like how a pitcher's ERC# is way more important than W-L record in the sim?

In RL a low BABIP is an indication that a batter is underperforming and a correction should follow - for those new to BABIP stat, take this example: A RL player with a historic BA of .330 is batting .230 after 30 games. The concern is if he has lost something in the offseason. If his BABIP is low, it might been he is being limited by bad luck or has faced some great defense. If his BABIP is high, on the other hand, it means there might be a larger problem since he isn't putting balls in play.

If it is in the algorithm, it also brings up the question of how it is normalized? Would a high BABIP in the 1800's be lowered because defense was apparently little-league sloppy back then?

As far as I know it's not used anywhere to influence the outcome of a PA
