The different shot %'s look great! I have a couple questions:
1) when the sim figures out where a shot is attempted, it takes into account the actual shot %, yes? So that a paint player such as 94-95 John Stockton, at 29 per/30 mid/41 pnt, is vastly different from a paint player such as 66-67 Wilt Chamberlain 0 per/9 mid/91 pnt?...

2)are y'all gonna use the shot % to rework to number of three pointers made/attempted for pre 79-80 NBA player/seasons? Or at least rework it to give players with available data some sort of historical consistency?

For example, Julius Erving never had a per shot % of more than 6% in a season where the nba/aba counted 3 pt fg, however, in the 3 seasons he played in the nba pre-3 pt fg, wis estimates a 200+% increase over his non-estimated career average:
74-75 5%
75-76 5%
WIS estimates:
76-77 11%
77-78 13%
78-79 9%
back to reality:
79-80 1%
80-81 1%
81-82 1%

One more thing, why are the minutes/salaries for the 75-76 ABA short season players so out-of-whack?
Ron Boone 5530 minutes?
Caldwell Jones 5249 minutes?

Once again, I am baffled about you and your strict adherence to your "formula".

Bill Russell is almost universally considered the greatest defensive player in NBA History, yet your "formula" not only does not give him a 100, but never gives him the top rating of 96.

When your intepretion of the data contradicts something so obvious, your "formula" has obvious errors.

platypus91 touches upon an issue that has been bothering me for some time - the estimated 3pt attempts for players before the 3pt line was introduced do seem out of whack and the players who suffer the most from the inequity are the 1980s players who were not adjusted because they could take treys but due to stylistic and strategic differences in game play took far less treys than the later players of the 90s and 00s

then again this is probably not the thread to discuss this, so:

Why is 96 the new highest rating?
8/26/2008 12:54 AM
is it just me or did salaries jump up a ton?
Wasn't part of the purpose of the previous patch to lower them?

Things don't look good to me.

salaries do look higher - not necessarily at the top 1% tier but at the next couple of tiers - bunch of formerly 8m guys now in the 9s, 7m guys into 8s, lots more guys into the 11m range etc

currently there are 276 players valued at 8m or higher - new release has nearly 500

just what we all wanted - open leagues full of scrubs and average players - exactly what people come to WiS for - "what if Raja Bell 2004 was on the 1995 Bucks?" we're living the dream now

yah... lots of mid-minute barkley seasons are 8+ million now, with his full-minute seasons close to (and over in a case or 2) 10 million.

Magic's top salary jumped almost a million.

Another bad turn in the wrong direction.

1960s = 6 seasons in top 100 usage % (Wilt 4, Baylor 2)
1950s = 1 season " " " " "

Norm Van Lier #1 in 'shot% per' at 96 - by 13% over Travis Diener

was Norm Van Lier more of a perimeter player than Diener? let me think....

Classic.

If they go through with this, they have to bump the salary cap for OL at $47 mil. $42 won't be enough anymore.

Does WIS know the definition of "happy medium?" It's like all or nothing, extreme changes instead of relatively minor adjustments.

But hey, now we get to learn the game all over again.

the changes get more and more bizarre... i can't keep up with them anymore... i think i've had enough
8/26/2008 5:03 AM
ok, now what???

players from the 2000's can all play better D than other eras? nonsense

2007-08 Lebron is still the king of D, he gets 93 while not on a D team while MJs and Pippens and some Rodmans get less than that despite being 1st teams!!! nonsense

Seble, I like how you said players salary would be somewhat in the same range, some would go slightly up and some slightly down...

A lot of the top players seasons, those we use the most, seem to have gone up by more than a million!!! You call that same range? Slightly up??

I understand why you didn't seem to be in a hurry to release this thing, good luck I feel you'll need a lot in the coming days...

I am with you my friend and am wishing I never bought that last six pack.
