I’ll pay attention to it.
let me know about 4th of July by X.
pretty damn good. Tomorrow I want to listen to the Blasters version. Not always, but usually the original is better than the cover.
Might be a good idea for a list....covers that are better than the original!
It is a very very good idea for a list.
Ill list original version and cover. A list where the cover betters the original or first version as in Bonnie Raitt version of love has no pride betters first version by Linda Rondstadt or ELO cover of Roll Over Beethoven better then Chuck Berry original.

Amazing List. I would have had many of those in my list. I’ll do a supplemental later.

I think I prefer Dave Alvin's version, but both are great

Supplemental List

1. Mind Set On You - George Harrison covering Rudy Clark

2. Brand New Cadillac- The Clash covering Vince Taylor and transforming a really good song into a really unbelievable and supremely raucous song but they tended to do that.

3. Love Has No Pride - the song was written by Eric Kaz and Linda Ronstadt recorded it but later Bonnie Raitt created what I think is one of the greatest performances of any song and perhaps one of the two most emotional songs ever.
I put there with In The Wee Small Hours by Sinatra.
I wish Sinatra had also recorded it.

4. Gloria - Patti Smith took an already masterpiece by Van Morrison and Them and made it into a nuclear bomb.

5. I Can’t Get No - not better of course but The Devo cover is amazing and important in the history of Rock and Roll.

6. Hound Dog - This song was already a hit underground R and B or rock and roll song heard mostly by black people only sung by Willie Mae Big Mama Thornton in 1952 before Elvis personally engineered it into the first and still one of the greatest Rock and Roll songs ever recorded. The guitar part is still literally thrilling. Elvis gave it the fast verve.

7. Roll Over Beethoven - The ELO version of the historical Chuck Berry masterpiece takes the electrical energy up several notches and it is a scorcher.

8 10. Before they were ordered to start writing their own songs The Rolling Stones have got to be the greatest cover bands there has ever been. 3 of my favorites are Time Is On My Side ( Irma Thomas ) …..Hitch Hike ( Marvin Gaye ) and The Last Time ( The Staple Singers ).

11. I Stand Accused - Elvis Costello by Jerry Butler on Get Happy.

12. To Make You Feel My Love - Adele by Bob Dylan. Her version was so perfect it made the song her own just like Sinatra used to do. Simply a brilliant song and rendition.

13. Do You Wanna Dance - by Bobby Freeman and covered very very well by Bette Midler in her classic debut album but crushed by The Ramones that brought out its real dance ability.

14 - 15. Helter Skelter and Dear Prudence by The Beatles are covered beautifully by Souxie and The Banshees. By anyone else you could ask why? But she does something very memorable with both of them and they sound fresh and hers. The guitar work on Helter Skelter is very exciting.

16. You’ve Got A Fiend - written by Carol King but given to James Taylor who crushed it and then Carol King covered her own song and it is a tie.
The Beatles and the Stones did the same with I Wanna Be Your Man and Ringo and the Beatles do it better then the Stones.

17. Heatwave - Martha and the Vandellas - covered by many great artists but I think that the Linda Ronstadt version is just as good if not better.

18. Police and Thieves - covered by The Clash on first album and considered one of the greatest ever covers. Lee Perry/Junior Purvin

19. Hard Day’s Night - Otis Redding live

20. My Baby Does The Hanky Panky - covered by The Cramps

21. Mony Mony - Billy Idol kills the original by Tommy James.

The Chain, by Fleetwood Mac. A great cover by The Highwomen...and I really like the original!

Pretty good list

No Time to Die (the last Craig movie) was actually pretty good. I really did not like Skyfall. It was not a bad movie, but it could have been anyone other than Bond and it would not have made a difference.

Great choices. It is a great song but Fixing A Hole is an interesting and surprising choice.

I hate the first 4 movies premise. That James Bond inadvertently antagonized his adoptive brother when children so much that he became the greatest criminal in the world.
That is just so stupid.
I like the first 2 as good espionage and stand alone.

I despise the common plot device where the hero is the direct or indirect cause of the murders and mayhem.

It doesn’t get much AirPlay or appear on many top Beatles songs.
I salute you for appreciating it. I consider it to be a cool surreal song.

thanks, but I don't really care what is popular, or other people consider great songs. I like what I like regardless of what other people think. I'm thinking you are the same way for the most part.

I just meant that very few people would put that song on their list - you defied the odds.
