Retiring after the 2017 season, at the end of his contract.

Can we have a "Turn Ahead the Clock" day to get rid of him sooner?

I kinda want him to keep going. He's going to hold the record for most money made in one career for a long time. Unless Bryce Harper gets that $500 million contract

He's currently made $378,285,104. If he plays thru 2017 that's another $42 mil. That's now $420,285,104. He gets $30 mil for reaching 660 homers. That's now 450,285,104. He'll get another $30 mil if he reaches 763 homers (I doubt he will) but it'll be a long time before we see someone reach that number. $450,285,104. Just wow

His last HR incentive bonus was given to charity.

Every player should pre announce his retirement....how can you cut a guy just 4 short seasons away from hanging 'em up?

It makes sense, he's among the top 7 or 8 position players of all time.

Trout is a threat to come close to that $450 million mark. He'll hit free agency at 30, at which point a $300 million contract would put him in that area. If he maintains his current level of production until that time he could definitely get that.

Especially with the way revenue has grown.

Don't sleep on Kershaw. He has an opt out after 2018 when he'll be 30. He'll have made about $170m at that point. Scherzer signed a 7 year, $210m deal at the same age in 2015. Given a few years of revenue growth and a better pitcher, a >Scherzer deal is possible.

I doubt it will be the $280m needed to get to $450m, but it will be relatively close.

I was looking at some of the more expensive contracts. Miguel Cabrera at the end of his extension will have made $400 million. If he finishes in the top 10 of MVP voting in his final 2 years, that's a $60 million bonus. He could break it as well

If he stays reasonably healthy for these last two seasons, A-Rod will almost certainly pass Ruth for 3rd all-time in HR (Ruth leads him now, 714-687).

I doubt A-Rod will catch Bonds for 1st -- he's 75 HR behind Bonds' 762, and I don't see him averaging 38 HR a season to pass him. But what if he hits, say, 50-60 HR in these two seasons, leaving him at 737-747? Assuming he's healthy, would he be tempted to come back for one season to try for the record?

Who cares? I once relished the day he'd get a shot but now it's like 'yawn'.

The bigger question is......Would he be given the Bonds treatment if he did want to come back? I don't think teams would beat each other up to bring in A-Rod for a season.

Agreed. I think everyone can't wait til he sails off into the sunset.

I'm rooting for him just to screw Bonds. The record was Bonds ultimate goal and is now his baby. I'd love to see that taken from him.
