LOL. Looks like you're the one trying to divert away from "an out is an out".
Nope. We can talk about that too. Bregman wasn’t out.
He hit a ground ball to the right side of the infield. Do you think he was intentially trying to ground out to second, but failed?
I do not.

If he was, would the result have been the same as a strikeout?

Im guessing you’re too much of a ***** to respond because everyone else already knows the answer.

"I don't have to watch the games. I have the stats."
Yeah, in the context of, “you wouldn’t know how good this guy was 40 years ago unless you saw him pitch.”

Which is horseshit. We know how good he was based on his stats.
In 2057, will your stat book tell you what happened in the 1st inning of game 7 in the 2017 WS?
BL???? Or are you consulting Bill James before responding?
Bill James must be a long-winded bastard.

dahs = Bill James?

I find it amazing that a guy can hit a ground ball to an infielder, have the result of the AB show as 0-1 in the boxscore, yet the result is significantly different from a strikeout.

Weird isn't it? That something that looks like an out according to a boxscore, actually isn't? And that a ground ball with a runner on base isn't always "disastrous"?
Again, it’s different because he wasn’t out.

“Ball in play” not the same thing as “out in play”
This is because it doesn't fit your side of the story. A strikeout just about always is an out (the rare dropped 3rd strike notwithstanding)

A ball in play, even a routine grounder or pop up, has a chance to be a non out.

These facts should override anyone's need to argue, but the sickness will rage on.

But no one is arguing that an out is the same as a non-out.

You've been arguing that trying to hit behind a runner was "intentionally trying to ground out to second".
11/3/2017 9:28 AM
I wish Bregman had been out, just to see BL try to explain it. Then his groundout would have moved the runner to third and clearly been better than a K, but BL would be arguing something stupid, like "Bregman was trying to line a double to the RCF gap and just ****** it up. No one tries to hit one on the ground to the right side. So since he wasn't trying to do it, it's basically the same as a K."

No, I asked if anyone thought hitters were intentionally grounding out.
11/3/2017 9:51 AM
That's an incredibly stupid thing to ask.

Why would you even ask that?
11/3/2017 10:05 AM
It was rhetorical, *******. Obviously no one thinks guys are grounding out on purpose. The point was that hitters who make a lot of their outs in play do so in situations where it helps and in situations where it hurts.

BL is the dude at the bar where you eventually say "You might be right" just so he'll STFU and you can enjoy your beer without his high-pitched voice yammering in your ear about xFIP. He employs that strategy in these forums except there are at least 10 people, in every thread, who thinks he's a dumbass.

Do hitters intentionally bunt into outs to move runners over?

Don't confuse BL with actual baseball strategy.
11/3/2017 11:53 AM
Just curious.... has BL's general baseball stupidity reached Uncleal's LH2B status yet?
11/3/2017 12:01 PM
BL would argue that hitters trying to cut down their strikeout rates would do so by intentionally grounding out to LH2B.
