I am curious. Does everyone agree that David Ortiz should be in the HoF?

Y or N?
It's pretty apparent that PED users aren't even in the discussion. Being fat and friendly does not exclude you from being a PED user.

No. Martinez was a better hitter, and played more defense than Ortiz. And Martinez doesn't belong.

That said, Ortiz will probably make it because he played for Boston and won rings. Neither of which apply to Martinez.

That will semi-shock me. He was on the PED list. He swore to find out why and hired the dude that's looking for Nicole Simpson's murderer.

But maybe fat and friendly is better than surly and belligerent in the eyes of the voters.

And, if Ortiz's career arc doesn't scream PED!!!!!!!!!, I don't know whose does.

He actually failed a drug test so Papi has zero chance!

I think he gets in because he was a winner and the PED test may not count against him as much as you think as he posted great numbers afterward as well and for 13 year post that 2003 test he never tested positive. I have a Boston bias of course but I think he gets in.

I wouldn't put Ortiz in. I think he falls just short of HOF quality. I'd put Sheffield in before him. Definitely Edgar Martinez. Larry Walker and Jim Thome. Maybe even Scott Rolen.

From 2003-15, Ortiz hit .297/.421/.571 with 17 home runs and 56 RBI in 73 playoff games. That includes 2004 ALCS and 2013 World Series MVP honors. Ortiz's walk-off home run in Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS started the Red Sox's historic comeback against the Yankees.

Ortiz then hit .353/.500/.706 with five home runs and 13 RBI in 16 postseason games in 2013. That includes going 11 for 16 (.688) with two doubles, two home runs and six runs batted in during the World Series. The Cards eventually smartened up and walked Ortiz four times in the decisive Game 6.

Of course, the Red Sox played in the 2013 World Series thanks to Ortiz's heroics against the Tigers in the ALCS. He tied Game 2 with a grand slam.

Pretty tough to keep him out when he also had nearly 2500 hits and 500+ HRs.

He may not be a first ballot but he will get in.

I'm curious why you would put Edgar Martinez in before David Ortiz.

Martinez hit:

312/418/515 with a 147 wRC+ and 68 WAR

Ortiz hit

282/365/525 with a 140 wRC+ and 55 WAR

Martinez was better.

.286/.380/.552 was the slash line for Ortiz

Ortiz had a personality. Martinez did not. It's not all stat-based.
