Between SIMMY and me, we scouted 582 D1 players with all but about a dozen going to level 4.

Recruiting ends at 11 PM. There is NO ONE I want for 4 seasons.
I'm shocked.

I was just hoping for a guy that could help in 1 area. Just got a transfer message. He might do since it's only a 3 season commitment.

I think I had less optimistic / more realistic expectations for RS2 recruiting than did Mike. I expected crap and I got crap. My only strategic move was to cut one crappy player to free a roster spot for a different crappy play.

The real fun will be next season as we get to RS1, as a D- team in a D+ conference. Trying to determine how high I can reach without stepping on my dick. It may require patience and a number of seasons of incremental improvement to get competitive beyond a conference level.

I refused to recruit anyone I didn't think I'd want as a SR. IIRC, my first recruiting class in Smith was a JUCO and 3 FR. All were better than what was on the roster but only one was around all 4 seasons(Pritts who is the all-time scoring leader at WCSU). The JUCO played 2 seasons and the other two were cut as JR and SR.

Especially since I was stuck with two SIMAI recruits that are "assigned" to me.

I did cut a guy and, if I don't find another player, I'll have 4 SR and a walk-on next season. I think that will give me a better jumpstart than 4 SR and a guy I won't want after next season.

The makeup of my roster next season will be 2 Sr, 6 Jr, 2 So and 2 Fr.

But five of the Juniors and one of the Sophomores will be SIM recruited, so I can get more flexibility by cutting 2 or 3 of them if I wish and replacing them with new players with higher potential who will fit into my system.

Next season is just going to be all about converting to a new defense (and possibly a new offense), and getting a feeling for what works and what doesn't on my roster.

You guys see some problems we have with DI? I've recruited 1 useful player in the 2nd session.

Yeah, but you define useful as 100 ATH, 100 REB, 100 DEF....

There are players to be found in the second session, it's just hard to land elite players without being involved in the first session.

Tecwrg's class looks okay assuming average potential.

Had I had another 26(I think) cycles, I think I could have done better.

I had no real problem getting the one guy I got. Problem is, I dumped most of my early resources in him so, as I sought a 2nd player, they were getting snapped up just as I opened "offer scholarship". Lost 2 like that.

So some of that is on me. I could have used my AP differently and maybe got a 2nd. Or, maybe, missed on both. My plan was to ensure one useful player and take a walk-on if necessary.

Ok. Point taken for sure. Eliminating Tribble at Colorado (recruited from A-)(my useful guy) here are the other 7 guys I've recruited 2nd session:

Robbins (Weber)- 80 ATH 100 REB 80 DE 60 SB 40 LP 60 STA (He would have been fine if he didn't need a break every minute)
Mines (Colorado A-)-95 ATH 60 SP 70 REB 100 DE 70 SB 60 LP 65 PER (He's OK)
Wessels (Weber)- Great player but the 60 SP, 1 REB, 1 SB, 1 LP, 30 PA was a major downing. Biggest black hole ever at the 2.
Devinney (Idaho)- 80 ath 80 reb 80 de 80 lp (whatever, he will be fine)\
Domiski (Colorado A-) - Trash
Johns (Idaho) - Trash
Agnew (Idaho) - Trash

So in 3 second sessions, 1 guy who can play on a real team, 4 guys who can play on PI teams, 3 awful guys I had to rescind, 7 combined walk-ons.

Also, I saw a team getting 38 FT attempts per game against 57 DI SOS in a toughish world with only 2 players in the Top 200 and 1 starting Upperclassman. No one needs top players to be remotely good, so just add 25 #200 players to a world for the second session. Sprinkle them across the country.

Adding more talent dilutes current talent.

IOW, in the land of midgets, 5'6" is the giant. Add a bunch of 5'6" to that land and he's just another dude.

Just cut another Sophomore, hoping to get a last minute signing of a slightly better Freshman recruit with more upside.

If not, I'll settle for a walk-on.

Got him.

Are you interested in sharing potentials?
