How about the inept James Buchanan who kicked the can down the road when he knew it was a powder keg for 4 years.

The South knew they would start the war on bare news of Lincoln's election
Ya know how trump always complains that he inherited a mess? Lincoln inherited the big biggest potential **** storm ever.

South Carolina seceded a month before he even took office!
4 months. Learn some history.
Oh even better then!
8/13/2017 6:54 PM
You should revisit some history too. When during the election did Lincoln say he was going to abolish slavery in the US??? He didn't. dipshiit.

My argument does not hinge on owning people. It hinges on rushing into a war that kills 600,000+ Americans over property.
Easily the most ignorant thing I've read on this site. And I've seen quite a bit.
Did you know that the US Government classified slaves as property until 1865? Yep, you could buy slaves just like you buy a cheeseburger today. Do you know when Lincoln started the Civil War?
I'm a little disturbed that you're missing the entire point.

Slavary was legal. Yes.

But it was IMMORAL. It was wrong and needed to end immediately.

Who said it wasn't immoral?

You obviously haven't bothered to read much of this thread. The US Government allowed the purchase of slaves. When you purchase something, it is your property. I'm not going to judge to morality of people 160+ years ago with today's standards.
I only read some of your dribble and I'm not going to read the other 10 pages of it.
And who said anything about today's standards? It was already viewed as immoral by the vast majority of the civilized world in the 19th century. USA's "peers" were already abolishing slavery.

your analogy of the govt taking away your car is bullshit and ignorant.
Property is property, moron.

And the USA didn't abolish slavery until 1865. Was the USA not in the civilized world?

FWIW, I've already said we were pretty barbaric back then. Native Americans agree.
Some northern states already abolished it WAY before 1865 dipshiit.

The North (and Lincoln) didn't view slaves as property. They were human beings. So Lincoln didn't "start a war that killed 600,000 Americans over property" you narrow minded piece of ****.
Stop being a retard, if possible. THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES CLASSIFIED SLAVES AS PROPERTY UNTIL 1865.

What part of that is too complicated for you?
No **** Sherlock.

Again you are clearly too stupid to see the point. And saying people died over property shows how much of a dipshiit you are. Because they only became human beings until after 1865? Moron.

In the eyes of the US Government, yes, they became people in 1865, dumbass.

Until then, slaves were property.

The problem here is saying "slaves were property in the US until 1865" is considered RACIST!!!! when it's actually just a fact. That's what the US Government law was. As best I know, Presidents aren't allowed to follow laws they like, disobey the ones they don't. They're people too.

Looks like 12 Presidents viewed slaves as property.

No.

I'm saying that just because slaves were technically property doesn't mean that 600,000 people lost their lives over property. If you weren't MikeT I'd be blown away by your stubborn stupidity over this and how you refuse to see the bigger picture. But I'm not surprised. Its classic moronic MikeT.

what the hell happened

last time i was here it was like page 5

"Kit Carson

Great Hegemon or Monkey Skinner?"

enjoy the argument though

You're applying today's standards to 1860 standards. IF YOU ARE ALLOWED TO OWN SOMETHING, IT IS PROPERTY. The US GOVERNMENT classified SLAVES as PROPERTY until 1865. Don't be mad at me, be mad at the US GOVERNMENT.

As an example, if someone walked up and kicked my dog, I'd treat them in the same manner as if they'd kicked me or my wife. And potentially end up in jail because they kicked property and I assaulted them. That's the LAW. I would not like it but that's how the US GOVERNMENT views it.

No one is considering you racist based on that fact. They're considering you stupid because you think that fact absolves the south for blame for causing the civil war.
