In my list of Pop singers I am a connoisseur of the singers of the standards. My list is not based on hearing smatterings. If anyone is unfamiliar with any of my choices I can assure you that they are all very special.
Yeah, I lean towards the Great American Songbook whenever I think of lists about music.

I'd put Brandi Carlile on that list, possibly Joni Mitchell
I considered Joni and she would have been on there if it was a Top 25. Had to make room for a couple of pet favorites of mine, like Bonnie Raitt.

love Bonnie Raitt..ever listen to Susan Tedesci? reminds me a lot of Bonnie. And if you're not familiar with Brandi Carlile, give her a listen

A lot of good stuff, Wylie. I think it is a fair comment to say that Ed McBain is the king of police procedurals.
Look him up in Wikipedia and if you decide to try one of his books go with an early one.
He had an alter ego pseudonym of Hunter something or another and did some very different and surprising things under that name.

I haven’t read Michael Connnely but I have almost all of his books. He does Bosch and the Lincoln Lawyer.
The Lincoln Lawyer is on Netflix - amazing !!!!!

Re King Stephen King - His son Joe Hill is now king. For real. I dare anyone to read NISFRTU and not agree that the heir apparent is apparently here.

If I did a list of female ( non standards ) singers I would have to have Janis Joplin and Amy Winehouse and Susannah Hoffs of the Bangles. I will do a female rock singer list.

I forgot about McBain..I think I have read everything he has written. I think the pseudonym is Evan Hunter...read that too. (Actually Ed MCBain was the pen name. His real name was Evan Hunter) I also like Joe Hill a lot. Another one I forgot is John Irving. I like him a lot too. I once had him as a passenger when I was driving limos. I told him I was a big fan and had read just about everything he had written, although I might have missed a couple of his earlier books. He responded "I probably should have missed a few of them too". A funny and nice guy.

Great post!
Based on how many you read I’m guessing you hold him in the same esteem as I do. Evan Hunter has done several movie screenplays also.
Did you read NOS4TU?
It is acclaimed as his best and a masterpiece.
