Edgar was an easy "no".
You have high standards Mikewrg.

I take it that means you won't be voting for Ortiz when he's eligible.
Correct.

Ortiz played only around 1/3 of the innings that Edgar played on defense.
Guess we better kick Frank Thomas out.

Thomas: 8,383 defensive innings played
Martinez: 4,829 defensive innings played
Ortiz: 2,162 defensive innings played

Still, Thomas played over 60% of his career at DH. And since you, for some stupid reason, penalize guys for not playing defense, he should be out.

BTW - it's funny how some people draw a hard line in the sand for DHs, but will happily vote for sluggers who hurt their teams with their defense.

Everybody has their standards.

Such as those folks who seem to think that the pharmaceutically enhanced accomplishments of players who have chosen to cheat the game should be rewarded.

So you're comparing DHing to PED use? Sounds about right, bad_cwrg

Don't drag me into this retard-fest.

Anyone who doesn't think Hoffman or Edgar should be in needs a brain scan
I voted no on Hoffman. I think he's borderline. I'd put Wagner in ahead of him and I voted no on Wagner.

I'd probably vote no on all relief pitchers. At least, I wouldn't vote any RP ahead of someone like Mussina or Schilling.
So you won't be voting for Rivera?

And this isn't an official ballot. We don't have a limited number of votes in this thread, so whether or not you'd vote him in ahead of someone else is irrelevant.
Eh, I'd probably vote for Rivera but if it came down to him or Mussina (for example) I'd vote Mussina.

Obviously we aren't limited to ten spots but, as good as Rivera was, he was still just a reliever.

It's like voting someone in because they were the best pinch hitter.

So what? I really don't get people who ban DH's or RP's on principle. It's a position in the game. The best at each position should be in the hall.

Obviously a starter is more valuable than a reliever, but guess what...a good SS or C is more valuable than a good LF. But we still put LFs in.

No. It'd be like banning 1B from the hall because they weren't good enough to play 3B.

DH is different than RP. DH is a starting player. He's probably the best hitter on the team (if we're talking about him as a Hall of fame candidate).

RP aren't starting players. They weren't good enough to make it as starters and have a diminished role. Like pinch hitters. They may do clutch things in big moments, but they're secondary players.

Tell the Yankees Rivera was a secondary player. Tell the 2016 Orioles that Britton was just a secondary player.

The best RPs are difference makers for their teams.

A late entrant for "Most Retarded Post of 2016".

Pretty much. I like Mussina and voted for him. Rivera never could've logged the innings Moose did. But the flip side of that is Mussina never could've done what Rivera did as a reliever.

Maybe. But I'd be willing to bet that great starters would be even greater relievers.
