The disconnect in your brain? Well, I can't physically see it, but I'm sure it's there.

The disconnect between what burns accused you of doing and what you did? There doesn't seem to be a disconnect.

The difference between burnsy saying that you like to appeal to authority and then an example of you appealing to authority?

No, I don't. How about you try to point it out to me.
3/18/2015 1:40 PM
Obviously you won't point anything out, though.

LOL.

The quote you pulled out from another thread was me questioning whether you thought you were smarter than the baseball writers.

What does a question about YOU have to do with ME?  How am I "appealing to authority" in a question posed to you?

The funniest thing about this is the fact that you are the ultimate sheep when it comes to acquiescing to the opinions of "authority", especially when it's one of your beloved SABRmetric gurus with their advanced baseball statistics.

Uh...

The quote you pulled out from another thread was me questioning whether you thought you were smarter than the baseball writers

Exactly.

If Smoltz is a no brainier, then Schilling and Mussina are also no brainers. Noble would know that if he looked.
We'll see how many voters agree with you and how many agree with Noble when it's all announced this afternoon.
Oh, I don't think there's any doubt that the voters will put in Smoltz and leave out Schilling and Mussina. But if we look at the numbers...

IP       ERA+       ERA        Whip         K          WAR
A  3261     127         3.46         1.14      3116          81
B  3473     125         3.33         1.18      3084          67
C  4413     118         3.54         1.31      2607          74
D  3562     123         3.68         1.19      2813          83

It's hard to argue that one of those guys should be in without arguing that all should be in.
So what you're saying is that YOU are somehow smarter, more knowledgeable, and have more insight into the game of baseball than the people who cover it for a living?

That's a yes or no question.

...
This is you appealing to authority.

You're essentially saying, "baseball writers cover baseball for a living. They are an authority on baseball. Do you think you know more about baseball than them?"

Great comprehension skillz.

Well done.

Please point out where I'm wrong.
3/18/2015 2:05 PM
Using that logic, I suppose that you would interpret the following question:

"BL, do you think that you are smarter than a fifth grader?"

. . . as me "appealing to the authority" of the superior intellect that fifth graders have over me.

That's a great leap in logic.

Good job.

Context matters.

If I answered, "yes," to the 5th grader question, it would be rather unremarkable. All you did was ask a pointless question.

The clear point of your HOF/BBWAA question was to appeal to authority.
3/18/2015 2:11 PM
If you say that's what the point was, then it must be true.

Can you do any other tricks?

3/18/2015 3:17 PM
If you weren't appealing to authority, what was the point of the question?
