Time to go plead with Ed.
I'm not sure what he wants me to do?

Is it cheating?
If an owner does not upgrade his best player for Season 1
If an owner tries different players during the season VS. LHP / RHP
If an owner does not draft the player you think is best
If an owner uses his 12 AAA players, some will have to use 2 or 3 immediately
If an owner does not only use his top pitchers to start games

How would I monitor all that, without alienating someone

Play how you want, have fun, and win however you can.
I think Ty Cobb and Pete Rose would agree.

Rather than monitor the method of how an owner chooses to throw games, most progressives I have been in have an anti-tanking rule.

Usually it is a certain number of wins a team must have by a certain point in the season. If a team doesn't achieve that number it is assumed the owner did or didn't do something that caused this. AKA tanking. This results in loss of draft position.. Not all the way to the end but say out of the top five.

The only thing you have to monitor is wins. There is always something you can do to get a few more wins. If all else fails make a trade.

The worst part of tanking to me, especially if the Wild Card is in effect. Throwing games ruins the competition for the rest of the league's owners.

This is not a make or break issue for me. Aren't we allowed to draft anyone from any era that is not on an other team. That is a large pool. Only 24 names per season. Enough for everyone. Even in season seven.

Thank-You fatboydad, I forwarded your info to Ed
He's a great owner, I want him back.

1908 on the Highlander season

Thanks, but I don't think I'll be able to commit to this league. I return the Red Sox to the pool.

Wow! We went from 25 to 22 pretty quickly.

Does anyone want to discuss having a minimum amount of wins
at certain intervals of the season, to be able to qualify for draft picks
or leave it alone?

Were looking for 1 AL & 1 NL Team to hit 24.

There are 3 teams back on the market
NY Giants
Louisville Colonels
Boston Red Sox
if anyone wants to change teams now is the time.

This may also change any players you may have lost
due to these teams, so you might want to check your roster
if your team was in proximity to these years - 1888 - 1902 - 1960

Im going to jump in with the 1902 NY Giants

RF anyone who played in the last progressive I played in saw a decent league go from the max to the minimum number of teams due to accusations of tanking. So I would vote for a minimum. Or be clear that any strategy including tanking or collusion between managers will be tolerated.

When you download your 1902 NY Giants
you'll come up short 2 players
ADD these 1902 NY Giants which will give you 27 players to pick your 24 keepers from
Keep in mind you will be twisting 16 players overall and 3 in the first season
Your 25th will of course be your draft pick.

Since you seem to have experience with this
Can you suggest a set of goals needed
to keep the draft picks
and
where your pick goes if you don't
Thanks

Owners we can vote on Fatboydad's suggestions when they come out.

While were waiting on at least 1 AL owner to join.

Let me ask, Start at 24 or wait a bit and see if we have a shot at 30

I can easily get SIM to change the owners from 30 to 24
and the start date to 48 hours from when we fill.

eman2400 asked me a question in regards to twisting.

I am going to switch from 1902 giants to the 1943 Giants

I think we should go with 24 but I am willing to wait for 30.  Thirty team leagues have unbalanced divisions and some weird schedule quirks.  Sometimes you only have two games scheduled for the day.

As far as tanking goes, aren't we just talking about one player per season until season seven?    The cream will be gone after the first draft.  I can see that some teams may put off making big twists to the initial roster to try and move up in the first draft.  That isn't tanking.  That is called strategy.  After that where is the advantage to tanking for one player?   To make things interesting for season seven I think we should have a lottery,  The playoff teams from season six and W.S. winners from seasons 1-5 would not be eligible.

If you say 30 wins by game 120 that would be fair.  If you are below .250 PCT. at that point you have to be trying to lose or you don't know what you are doing and drafting one player won't be much help.

Yes! 1 draft per season and there are already quite a few good player on existing rosters

I think the concept of tanking is a mute one since there is not all that much to gain.

TRADES FOR DRAFT POSTIONS ARE BANNED
.....written and directed by Fatboydad
.....Produced and enforced by Retiredfart

41 Wins by game 162
Penalty:
1st pick drops to 5th, 2nd pick drops to 6th, and so on if need be.

OR

Lottery divided into teams of 5
The worst 5
next worst 5
and so on.
League with 24 Top 4 in a lottery
League with 30 there will be 6 sets of 5's

OR

My new favorite
What grayfoxx suggests.
With the draft position being payroll decided
The ban on trade for draft position could be lifted
The amount of wins could be lifted
The need for a lottery is not necessary

Discuss and finalize

Wait on 30 - Start @ 24

OR - just keep using the draft order based on the lowest payroll.

Tanking problem gone.

I like grayfoxx idea. No lottery, no loss ceiling and no tanking.

I vote for 24 teams unless we get a lot more New signups in the next few days.
