PACKERS: Datone Jones is latest DL bust drafted Topic

while I will grant you, that is an extensive list of hurts, I guess I just look at injuries as not something you overcome but something you prepare for in the NFL

You can prepare for injuries.  For sure.  But that many?  And in key positions?  Wow.  To even make postseason is a great job.  To win it all....  and on the road in all games....  a great achievement.  They were in position to win every game this season.  A credit to the coaching staff who juggled in players with little to no experience, and got them to believe they could do it.  And with no running game.  None.  If New England hadnt peaked in games 7-15 of the regular season, and instead in games 16-19, this would have been a HECK of a Super Bowl.

MLB AJ Hawk, due for a $10M salary, was released today when the two sides could not agree on an extended deal. Work on a new contract will continue, though the expiration of the CBA after tomorrow night may put things on hold.

And within hours of his release there are reports that Hawk will return to Green Bay today to sign a new five-year deal.

This could mean the end of Nick Barnett's tenure with the Packers, as Desmond Bishop has been installed as a starter on the inside. The team also has Brandon Chillar available to play MLB.

D-lineman Johnny Jolly, who had applied to the commissioner for reinstatement to the league following his arrest a couple years back, was arrested this week in Houston with, yes, codeine in his car.

Ima guess he won't get his suspension lifted.

That's probably a safe assumption.

With the 32nd pick in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, the Packers select OT Derek Sherrod from Mississippi State. There are some reports that the Bengals were trying to acquire the pick, but the two sides could not agree on compensation. Green Bay made the pick just before their 10 minutes had expired.

TT still hasn't made any deals through three rouinds, staying where he was at the bottom of the second and third rounds to select Kentucky WR Randall Cobb (a sometime quarterback who also ran for over 1300 yards and threw for nearly 700 in his career) in the second and Hawaii RB Alex Green in the third.

Earth to Ted: NEED A PASS RUSHER.

Seriously.  You are going to question Ted Thompson?  The man has built you a team that is better in almost every respect than any other team in the NFL by doing things HIS WAY.  Against the grain of what the media thought he should do, as well as most fans.  Including unceremoniously dumping the most revered player in team history.  He built it with depth to withstand the injuries that every NFL team gets, and with the talent to win a Super Bowl and be on the preceface of a dynasty situation if the cards fall right.  I see nothing he has done that would make me question his decision making come draft time.

Justin Harrell?
5/1/2011 12:00 AM
Ted finishes the draft by accumulating addiitonal picks, ending up with 10 overall, and selects two TEs, a G, a CB, a DT, and 2 LBs.

Justin Harrell brought an aura of awesome to that locker room that it hadn't known in a long time.....Green Bay is where it is right now in the pecking order because of that selection

LB Nick Barnett indicating that the Packers are letting him go. Not much of a surprise after they gave Hawk and Bishop starter money. No way they were going to pay Barnett $5.9M this season.

K Mason Crosby gets a five-year, $14.75M contract to stay.

Packers have lost several free agents:

Jason Spitz - Jacksonville
Daryn Colledge - Arizona
Cullen Jenkins - Philadelphia
Brandon Jackson - Cleveland
Korey Hall - New Orleans

James Jones is still unsigned; maybe the Pack will bring him back in. He was thought to be headed to Minnesota but the Vikings signed Michael Jenkins.
