Game 16: The Rider offense turns 16 baserunners into two runs, and George Frazier turns the final two innings into a nightmare; the end result is that the Mammoths come up with their third victory of the season, beating the Riders 4-2.

Game 17: Milwaukee bounces back with three home runs and 14 hits to outslug the Mammoths 11-9. Rick Sutcliffe allows six runs in six frames but improves to 3-1.

Game 18: Milwaukee unloads on Charlie Leibrandt for nine runs in the third and finally gets the expected laugher against New York, winning the finale 17-6. John Montefusco equals Sutcliffe's 6 ER in 6 IP line from the day before and gets his first win of the season.

From one end of the spectrum to the other; Milwaukee now travels to Cleveland to face the 15-3 Saltdogs.

Game 19: Cleveland takes the opener 7-6 when George Brett homers on the first pitch from Sammy Stewart leading off the bottom of the ninth.

Game 20: Starting with the second inning, Cleveland scores in five straight frames, and they bludgeon the Riders 16-2 to win their second straight in the series.

Game 21: Reggie Smith has two doubles and a home run to pace the Riders and Tommy John contributes another respectable performance; Milwaukee avoids a sweep by winning the series finale 6-4.

So far hanging tough near the top of the division, Milwaukee will host Chicago next.

Game 22: Milwaukee scores in only two innings, but they put up big numbers both times and edge the Goats 9-8. Rich Gossage pitches a scoreless ninth for his sixth save.

Game 23: Three Rider pitchers combine for a 6-hitter, walking none, and Milwaukee beats the Goats 4-2.

Game 24: Floyd Bannister shuts out the Riders for eight innings and the Goats have two big frames at the plate as they salvage the series finale, 8-2.

The 13-11 Riders head to San Diego to face the second place Conquistadors (12-12).

Game 25: San Diego regains a share of first place, beating the Riders 4-2 despite being outhit 9 to 8 and collecting no extra base hits while Milwaukee has four. Mike Krukow gets his first win of the season in five decisions.

Game 26: Jim Morrison hits his first home run of the season and Rich Gossage strikes out Dwight Evans with two men on to end the game; Milwaukee wins 8-4.

Game 27: Dave Edler and Damaso Garcia commit errors that lead to four unearned San Diego runs and the Conquistadors get back into a tie for first place with a 5-4 win over the Riders.

Milwaukee heads to Minnesota next.

Game 28: John Montefusco allows only four singles in seven innings of work and the Riders overcome some very poor hitting with men on base to edge the Lame Ducks 3-2.

Game 29: Britt Burns allows three home runs in 4.2 innings and the Riders drop a 6-5 game in Minnesota. Jerry Mumphrey has four hits for the Riders, three of them doubles, but scores only once as Hal McRae and Willie Aikens combine to go 0-7 behind him. Burns is now 1-4 with an ERA of 8.89.

Game 30: Reggie Smith has three hits, including his fifth home run, and drives home three to lead the Riders to a 6-3 win over the Lame Ducks. Manny Sarmiento allows only two unearned runs in his five innings of work and Rich Gossage earns his 10th save, working around a hit and a walk.

The Riders will host Georgia Force next.

Game 31: Atlanta commits three errors, Milwaukee scores two unearned runs, and tough-luck Dennis Martinez takes his fourth loss as the Riders win the series opener 3-1. Tommy John goes eight innings for the win and Rich Gossage actually pitches a clean inning to earn his 11th save.

Game 32: Phil Niekro scatters eight hits in a way that Rick Sutcliffe most clearly does not, and the Force even the series with an 8-1 victory.

Game 33: The Riders explode, with seven players collecting three hits each, and pummel the Force 16-10. Milwaukee pounds out 24 hits, all but two of them singles, and draws four walks for good measure. Jim Morrison scores four times.

The Riders depart for DC to face the 20-13 Commandos.

Game 34: With Britt Burns already off to a horrible start, bad fielding is the last thing he needs, but that's what he gets in the opener at DC. Burns allows seven runs (four earned) in five innings and the Riders fall out of first place as they are whipped 11-4.

Game 35: Manny Sarmiento goes seven 3-hit innings and the Riders get home runs from Willie Aikens and Roy Smalley to beat Washington 6-1.

Game 36: Washington scores two runs off George Frazier in the eighth to snap a 3-3 tie and limit Milwaukee to a two-out walk in the ninth, taking the series with a 5-3 win.

The Riders head to New York to face the Mammoths.

Game 37: Roy Smalley reaches base five times and Rick Sutcliffe survives an eight-walk performance as the Riders beat New York 7-2.

Game 38: Hal McRae hits two homers, Jeffrey Leonard has four hits, and the Riders outslug the Mammoths 12-10.

Game 39: Britt Burns has another rough outing (11 baserunners in six innings, plus five runs) but the Riders' bats deliver a 7-5 victory to complete a sweep in New York.

Milwaukee returns home to face the Saltdogs (25-14).

Game 40: Cleveland's Greg Luzinski has three hits, including his second home run of the year, and Bill Laskey outpitches Manny Sarmiento as the Riders fall 4-3.

Game 41: Joaquin Andujar dominates the Riders and Tommy John gets shelled; Cleveland romps to an 11-1 victory.

Game 42: The Riders salvage the series finale, getting a four-run 6th inning en route to a 7-6 win. Rich Gossage picks up save #14.

The Riders head to Chicago to face the Goats.

Game 43: Roy Smalley doubles and homers and Hal McRae drives home three runs as the Riders topple the Goats 7-3. John Montefusco goes six innings for the win, improving to 6-1. Sammy Stewart gets the last out of the eighth, with the score 6-3, and pitches the ninth as well, earning his first save.

Game 44: Tim Raines has four hits and Jerry Mumphrey drives in five, allowing the Riders to overcome yet another horrible start by Britt Burns (2 HR, 7 R allowed in five innings) to beat the Goats 11-7.

Game 45: Jerry Mumphrey adds another four RBI to his stat sheet and the Riders score 11 times over the final three innings to sweep Chicago, winning the finale 13-4. Reggie Smith chips in with four hits and three RBI.

With that, the Riders move back into a first place tie with San Diego. Guess where we're headed next?

Game 46: The Riders jump on San Diego starter Jerry Reuss with three in the first and four more in the third, then hang on for a 9-5 victory. Tim Raines and Reggie Smith hit two doubles each.

Game 47: The Conquistadors even the series with a 3-1 win behind Jim Palmer, getting home runs from Al Oliver and Ken Griffey off Rick Sutcliffe.

Game 48: Milwaukee gets off to another fast start, scoring six in the first, and adds another TEN in the seventh as they blow out San Diego 19-3. Bill Madlock and Jeffrey Leonard each hit their second home run of the season.

The Riders head home to face Minnesota.

Game 49: Britt Burns dodges a few bullets and puts together his best outing of the season (six innings, one run allowed) to help the Riders take the opener from Minnesota, 8-1.

Game 50: Sammy Stewart has trouble with his control out of the pen and the Lame Ducks score three in the seventh to break open a close game; Milwaukee gets eight hits but none of them in key situations and loses 5-1.

Game 51: Minnesota hits three home runs in the first inning, scoring EIGHT runs off Tommy John. The Ducks' Dave Stieb hardly needs all the help, as he throws a complete game, limiting the Riders to a single run. Minnesota routs Milwaukee 11-1 to win the series.

The Georgia Force are in town next.

Game 52: The Riders suffer another late bullpen meltdown, this one from Ron Reed, and the Force score three times in the eighth to win the series opener, 6-3.

Game 53: Dennis Martinez enters the game 1-10 with an ERA well over 8.00, but nearly beats the Riders, allowing only two runs in seven innings. Luckily John Montefusco is slightly better, and the Rider bullpen throws three scoreless innings to preserve a 2-1 win.

Game 54: Britt Burns continues to show slight improvement, but it's not enough to beat Phil Niekro, and Atlanta takes the series with a 7-1 victory.

With 1/3 of the season played, Milwaukee finds itself 30-24, three games behind division leader San Diego. Next up is a quick road trip to Washington.

Game 55: Manny Sarmiento has another good outing and the Riders get home runs from Richie Hebner and Reggie Smith to edge the Commandos 5-4.

Game 56: Hal McRae drives in three runs, all in different innings, and Rich Gossage pitches a perfect ninth to preserve another 5-4 win over the Commandos.

Game 57: Willie Aikens homers in the eighth to knot the score at two, and the Riders explode for five runs in the 10th inning to sweep Washington, winning the finale 7-2.

Milwaukee returns home to face the Mammoths.

Game 58: John Montefusco benefits from another strong offensive showing, moving to 9-1 with a 6-5 defeat of the Mammoths. Rich Hebner hits his first double of the season.

Game 59: Damaso Garcia has four hits from the ninth spot in the lineup, including two doubles and a triple, to pace a 17-hit attack as the Riders beat New York 9-6. Garcia's triple starts a three-run seventh that snaps a 5-5 tie, giving Sammy Stewart the win in relief.

Game 60: The Riders can't finish off the sweep, getting 15 baserunners and scoring only two runs as they drop a 6-2 decision in the series finale.

Milwaukee hosts the East division leaders, Cleveland (39-21) next.
