The bigger story with the Hawks is that Joe Johnson is washed up and still has 5/108 left on his deal.

Joe Johnson should have been ATL's amnesty dump.

he'll get amnestied in due time, no point in dumping him this year for like $8M cap room that they'll use to double pay somebody who's even worse.

yeah no point in using the amnesty on Johnson unless you actually plan on using the cap room since you still have to pay him.  Hawks might as well get something out of him if they are going to pay him at this point.  Sure in a year or two he should and likely will get cut under the amnesty, but no point right now.

The dirty little (and possibly stupid) Atlanta truth is that they believe that with using the Amnesty Clause on JJ will free up money to make them a player for Dwight Howard.  Howard originally wanted to play there out of high school since he is from the ATL, but I think it is a stretch.

yeah, sorry about that - when you watch some of that 80s stuff even the half court possessions feature a hella lot more ball movement and a much crisper pace

I blame the evolution of the 3-point line.  The main purpose of getting the ball down the court quickly and / or good ball movement is to get a high % shot.  Now that everyone's in love with the 3-ball, there's no desire to do those other things.  I HATE that stupid line and will forever contend that it has greatly damaged the game of basketball in several ways.  (Anybody ever practice anything but dunks and 3's anymore?)
