BL Debate 101:  Repeating yourself over and over and over and over and over and over and over makes it true.

"But I said it 73 times over the last week, it has to be true!!!!"

Are you now some sort of financial advisor?
No. Why would you think that?
You seem to believe that you can discriminate between people's discretionary and non-discretionary spending.

What are your qualifications for doing that?

I can make an assumption based on what you say. You talked about how important retirement savings were to you. It's reasonable to assume that saving for retirement isn't the last* thing you spend your income on.

*last in terms of priorities, not time.
Perhaps I value everything I do with my money equally.
This makes it sound like you do not understand the point.
6/18/2014 8:45 AM
Actually, it makes it sound as if I disagree with your point.
6/18/2014 8:47 AM
I'm going to do it too!!!

I've suggested that anyone could survive on $500 a year.   Maybe not in their current situation but, if we're talking basic needs, $500 a year it is.   However, circumstances that we've created makes that very difficult to fathom for 99.9% of the population.  Because of the situations we've placed ourselves in, our respective dollars have more/less value to us than the next guy.   Because of these circumstances, I'm not interested in hearing that 20kJoe will miss a dollar more than 40kBob.

I can't be any clearer.

You can be "not interested in hearing it," but that's reality. And that's why we have higher rates in the upper tax brackets.
6/18/2014 9:00 AM
So because you say it 143 times in an internet forum, it must be true?

Got it.

6/18/2014 9:24 AM
Tec, shhhhhh, BL is explaining to me how I value my money.

He's still wrong about it, but he says it with such CONVICTION!

In the same way that you insist that it isn't true by repeating yourself.
6/18/2014 9:41 AM
So, we cancel either other out.

It may or not be true.

Should we continue to take money away from the wealthy based on a questionable premise about how much they value their money?

6/18/2014 9:51 AM
Wait!!!  I've repeated myself and I'm sure my opinion is counter to BL's "Tax them more because they'll miss it less."

Does that mean we win!??!?!?!?!

It's not questionable to reasonable people.

This has GOT to be a poke.  Nobody could be that self-unaware.

So anybody who agrees with you is reasonable, and anybody who does not is unreasonable.

Interesting.

How fortuitous for you that you are also the arbiter of reason, in addition to all your other skills.
