Can you draft a HORRIBLE team? Need 1 more LOSER!! Topic

This league is for losers.

Can you build a losing team?I don't mean building a mediocre team.  Or a fairly bad team.  I'm talking about building a team so bad that you can potentially lose 120 or 130 games.  Sounds fairly easy, right?  We've all drafted some bad teams, but can you build a stinker with everyone else trying to do the same??

This league will allow you to be creative in building a horrible team.  The worst four teams in each league (regardless of division) will proceed to the playoffs as long as they meet the playoff eligibility criteria (see below). BUT there is a catch.  Once you get to the playoffs, the object will be to WIN.  In the playoffs, the losers DO NOT advance to the next round.  Winner takes all.  How do you try to maximize your losses but also keep the playoffs in mind?  Good question.  You decide your strategy.

Season 1 is currently in the playoffs.  I had the worst record overall at 22-140, but got swept in the first round of the playoffs.  We did have some teams that were not very good at losing.  There were ten 100-win teams, with Schwarze topping the list with a 156-6 record! Stats were all over the map.  There were 6 teams that hit over .400 and 9 teams that hit under .200.  The league average for ERA was 7.43!  It ranged from 1.01 to 15.81.  There were tons of no-hitters and even some perfect games.  And fielding??  Well, the league average was 898 errors per team.  The low end was a very respectable 116, but the other extreme was 2213 errors!  Needless to say, the box scores were hilarious to look at!!

To make things more competitive and less separation between teams, I have made a few adjustments for season 2.

Here are the parameters:

$80mil cap.  You MUST spend at least $79,800,000 of that. CHANGE FOR SEASON 2:  Minimum player Salary is $400,000.  Otherwise, spend it how ever you want.  NO waiver wire or AAA, No DH. Clones are okay.  CHANGE FOR SEASON 2: Injuries are ON. (This means that you can't pitch a 200k scrub for 1,000 innings.) There are no minimums or maximums for how many plate appearances or innings that you must draft - but see Playoff Eligibility Criteria for player usage requirements.

Playoff Eligibility Criteria:  Aside from being one of the worst 4 teams in your league, In order to be eligible for the playoffs, all drafted hitters MUST have at least 50 plate appearances during the course of the regular season (regardless of real-life stats.)   Pitchers MUST pitch at least 50 innings over the course of the regular season (regardless of real-life stats.).  (The team with the worst record gets the highest seed and so on down the line.  Ties in the playoff standings will be broken by the greatest negative run differential.  At this level of losing, the worst teams will definitely be giving up way more runs than they score.)

If you have questions, feel free to sitemail me, especially if you don't want to tip anyone off as to a potential strategy.  Join if you dare.  It's a lot of chaos and a lot of fun!!

League number will be created when we are half full.

Is trying to win during the season and just going for a ridiculous record frowned upon?

No, but if you do you should announce it so the commish can divide such teams equally amongst AL/NL and the differing divisions so as to not give one team/league an unfair advantage.
