A guy slugging .550 is going to be considered a power hitter by just about everyone.
3/23/2010 7:14 PM
Everyone smart enough to realize "power" refers to more than homers. Doubles and triples count as well.

Apparently the concepts of ISO and PF are foreign to most users on this website. I'm actually disappointed to find there isn't as many stat geeks as I thought around here. BTW 1994 Gwynn's .174 ISO is not indicative of a power hitter.

The objective of the offense is to get runners on and move them around the bases. A guy slugging .550 is moving runners around the bases pretty well.

Actually I just miss my play partner Primetime

Did he get the ban?
Well, he still had his alias'. I think MikeT23 drove the final nail in the coffin with the primewhiner bit. Poor bastard took a beating daily.

skonley is making a bid to fill the coveted "soopatard" opening however..

Im right here fans. Don't feel like adding to this because its dumb. Can't believe this discussion is going 5 pages.

What nail did MikeFat23 put in my coffin? Off your meds again arvid?

You should worry about this guy skonley who clearly called you out and you ran like a girl.

Hi nomar.

The guy is getting paid more than Pujols, at least for now. I just think paying $23m per year for a guy that never drove in or even scored a 100 runs and has 72 career homers in 3000 PA's is ludicrous.

That's my opinion, and obviously you have your opinion. But mine is better! LOL
skonley - you may be right on a strictly baseball sense, although I'd argue that the money/year might be correct, but not an 8 year deal for a catcher.

However, from a business standpoint the Twins simply had to get him resigned, so much so that they almost would have to give him anything he asked. He grew up in the area and is clearly the most popular and best player they've had since Kirby Puckett. Most importantly, they are opening a new stadium next month, built primarily with tax-payer money and while the Twins don't generate the revenues that the Yankees or Red Sox do their owners (the Pohlads) are among the richest group of owners in MLB (at the time of his death, Carl Pohlad's worth was almost 3 times that of George Steinbrenner).

If the Twins cried poverty and let the kid from St. Paul sign with the Yankees or Red Sox the season after opening a taxpayer funded stadium...it isn't a stretch to see baseball in Minnesota losing viability like it has in Oakland and Miami.
