existential moment of the day:

so now you're deep into drafting your bench and you find yourself asking yourself 'is Bruno Caboclo really the answer?'

Robusk kept track of all kinds of stats during Savage and TS% differential was a very good indicator of whether a team was good or not. Just because the Sim waters it down a bit doesn't change the fact that TS% matters.
But that was actual ts% from SIM results, not projected ts% based on real-life stats. Copernicus's point is that players will generally take more FG (assuming uptempo) and fewer FT in the SIM than they did in real life. But I agree FT have to be factored in somehow, you just have to understand that most players won't approach their real-life FT totals.

I had an earlier version of the squad which featured 19-20 Reggie Jackson as the backup point.

he’s cheap and does some things well enough, but you find yourself wondering. “can you live with ten minutes of 27 D? can you? I know, I know, it’s just ten minutes.....but are you better because of it or are you just content with it?”

Reggie did not make the team.

TS% is tricky because it takes into account FTA volume as well as percentage, which doesn’t translate all that well in WIS.

then again, I’ve found teams with better drafted TS% play better overall. the higher I’ve gone with TS%, the better my teams have been.

Recently my teams have actually reflected their real life TS%. But I’m not going to share how I got that to happen. I did that already and was laughed out of the room. Suffice it to say Bird and Dirk are going to be just fine wrt real life numbers

(when I said it, I hadn’t accomplished it yet. there was one more thing I needed to account for. at present, though, it seems to be working as I intended it)

Couple of notes:
- FTAs and FTM obviously have value. They have less in the sim than raw shot numbers. But that only matters when the cap is low like here. Something like Savage or DH52 I think you want to account for it as incremental improvements. Even here they help, but debatable whether or not it is the best use of your money.

- TS% differential was a good proxy for team success in Savage but different cap environment and also as much a factor of defense and foul rate, which are easier things to cost control.

- assuming you are playing uptempo offense, just by virtue of increased raw shot percentages, I’d expect most teams to be near + or - some small amount to real TS%

Just one other thing: a league like ODL tends to be pretty defense and shooting focused due to people making business decisions on a limited cap. I don’t think you can make a lot of 1:1 comparisons between things you observe here versus 52, Savage, OL etc.

mmm... 'cost control', now you're talking real nasty sexy

another important question: do you think at Thanksgiving dinners Horace ever turns to his twin brother Harvey and says 'you know people are still drafting me in the ODL to this day, what's your ADP?"

Reggie is on my squad not 19-20 though

At his current pace, it’s possible his nephew could leap him.

There are becoming way too many very good players undrafted, that's at least twice for Payton.

LOL for both of you fellas - in Harvey's defense: "I actually had to carry some water, you were like the 3rd or 4th guy behind Mike and Scottie"

so hear me out... I have 2.1m and three slots left to fill for about 1000 minutes, now here's my question:

Is it alright with everyone if I just draft 3 Manutes? I know clones are not allowed but I just wanted to float this idea and see what people thought

i'm happy for Jerami. I don't think he'll be good enough for this league but it's so easy to root for a guy who finally got the chance to prove what he could do.
