teams starting to come together...boy, that was a rapid-fire middle of the fifth round!

ash adds dampier, who I had last year and was very happy with...Murphy/Dampier/Howard is one heck of a rebounding frontcourt. But Murphy and Dampier are a little light on minutes and heavy on salary; ash might need more minutes from his 6th and 7th picks than anyone else, no matter which Vince he's using. But you don't need any more rebounding for sure; methinks there's some low-cost, high efg% scoring coming in the next couple rounds.

felonius is putting together a team that I can't decide on because its composition is so different than anything I can remember seeing. Very balanced scoring, balanced rebounding, balanced passing. Very efficient despite not many threes. Should force a lot of turnovers. But something still seems off to me and I can't figure out what. Maybe it's just because of Payton, who has never seemed to me to be worth the money. Or maybe it's just because, outside of Daugherty and Mullin, I really have no clue which Unseld/Marion/Payton seasons will be used (although I think I can make a pretty good guess). I will certainly watch this team with interest.

rylan's team looks like a team that would have dominated the sim a couple years ago, when older-generation rebounders were more effective. Now, I think it's average...and potentially even pretty bad. Rebounding will be a big issue against some of the board-pounding teams in the league. But this team should rack up a ton of steals and play pretty good D; the scoring is also relatively balanced. I just think, honestly, that Keye will kill you; he's bad offensively, and doesn't do enough rebounding to make up for it. At least his usage is lower than your other starters so that won't hurt you too bad.

I used to see Keye (along with Gerald Govan) a lot a couple versions of the sim ago, back in the days when 15 rpg IRL would get you 15 rpg in the sim.

I struggled with the final addition to my starting lineup. Spending big money on Haywood gave me tiny money to spend on a SF. I looked hard at options for adding meaningful offensive rebounds at that spot, and the affordable options were generally horrible defensively and fouled a lot.

Turkoglu's a bit of a kitchen sink guy - 166 3s, 391 FTAs, nice passing from the forward spot, and isn't terrible at anything in particular.

This squad will hold their own on the boards against most teams but will definitely give up some against teams that are build around total glass domination (e.g., tricky, sappy, scud, ash, felonius, evil). We'll make a lot of 3s and a lot of FTs. Low TOs should be an edge. My guess is I'll be on the playoff bubble.
4/30/2010 4:37 PM
I've gotten addicted to Dampier lol. He's been on my last 2 funk52 teams, and now I'm using him in a $42M. If things work out like I want them to, I'm fine. Things often don't work out like I want them to, though! What a lot of picks this round. I'll have to do this later, as I'm going out for the evening.

felonius, that's about what I figured. Offensively, really, how can that team not be successful? Everyone can score and score efficiently. And defensively, you'll force uptempo teams into tons of turnovers. Your three good defenders are spread out nicely. Really a good-looking squad, but I'm still not sure if I trust Payton.
4/30/2010 10:03 PM
Well I feel slightly better about my team now, since I hadn't actually played any basketball since before the last update (!).

Player USG Efg Orb% Drb% ast% Stl Blk Def
61-62 Robertson 25.8 51.0 6.2 15.8 26.0 2.0 1.2 82
04-05 Nowitzki 28.7 49.0 3.5 22.9 10.3 1.4 2.3 85
91-92 Drexler 28.7 50.7 6.2 12.4 21.2 2.1 1.4 79
07-08 Dalembert 15.7 51.3 12.4 22.8 2.2 0.7 4.3 80
00-01 R. Lewis 18.5 55.0 5.8 15.6 6.0 1.5 1.0 66

That looks ok, especially adding in the sheer number of threes and the extremely good FT%.

What I don't know is if these guys, costing me 35.5 mil (more or less) are really cost effective. I think I can put an ok bench together for a little less than 7 mil, but I just don't have the experience to know.
4/30/2010 11:13 PM
That's more than enough for a good bench. I'd actually encourage you to spend less on your bench and more (per minute) on Nowitzki and Drexler. But that's just me.
5/1/2010 12:26 PM
Well, got the guys I was targeting in the last round; only time will tell on if this actually works. As of now my starting lineup (could still be a little tinkering):

USG EFG ORB DRB AST STL BLK DEF

PG T.R. Dunn 10.9 51.2 9.0 14.1 7.4 2.0 0.7 78
SG Manu Ginobili 29.2 54.0 3.1 14.2 19.7 2.3 0.9 92
SF Mike Miller 21.5 56.0 2.2 13.9 14.7 0.9 0.4 49
PF Mel Daniels 21.3 51.5 13.1 27.8 6.0 1.2 3.5 80
C Shaq O'Neal 31.2 57.4 11.4 23.3 11.9 0.5 4.4 84

Damon Jones 15.6 61.1 0.7 8.8 17.5 0.8 0.1 39
O. Polynice 16.1 54.7 11.2 24.8 2.0 0.8 1.5 55

Strengths: rebounding, offensive efficiency
Weaknesses: fouls, assists

Really, I'm very happy with this team. Dunn as starting PG is how we plan to go at first for his defense and incredible rebounding as a PG, but we could make the switch to Jones if lack of assists is an issue. I don't think it will be, because I'm right at a decent 60% ast pct from the starting lineup, and since my team efg% is already high and I'll probably run uptempo, I might not even need that many. But we'll see.

I'm a little worried - especially in a short series - that my big guys could get in foul trouble. Neither is really all that bad, but they're solidly over 3 per game (albeit in lots of minutes) so we'll see. But our defense is pretty solid - hopefully Jones and Miller don't get lit up too much and I can cover them with Dunn and Manu. Pretty solid steals and blocks, if not great - we should average around 8 a game of each.

I think this is a playoff team - I think it's better than my team that made the playoffs last year. But as last year showed, we're all getting better at the sim, and that means everyone has a good team. So who knows?
5/1/2010 12:46 PM
Well here's what I've got. I've been on a losing streak in my draft leagues lately, feel like I don't have a clue what I'm doing.

C - Bill Russell - 14 Usg, 44 eFG, 12/32 Reb, 13 Ast 95 Def
PF - Jayson Williams - 16 Usg, 50 eFG, 19/22 Reb, 4 Ast 58 Def
SF - Karl Malone - 33 Usg, 55 eFG, 8/23 Reb, 16 Ast 90 Def
SG - George McCloud - 23 Usg, 51 eFG, 4/11 Reb, 10 Ast 49 Def, 678 3PA
PG - Jerry West - 26 Usg, 52 eFG, 3/7 Reb, 24 Ast, 90 Def
Bench - Manute Bol - 7 Usg, 40 eFG, 5/19 Reb, 1 Ast, 80 Def, 9 Blk
Bench - Jameer Nelson - 23 Usg, 58 eFG, 2/10 Reb, 23 Ast, 60 Def

So this team should rebound well, shoot a lot of threes, and hopefully defend well and get to the line a lot. Although I'll be damned if I have any idea how how to reliably get a team that does the latter two. We'll see!

not sure about this squad - could be one of those cases where you try to get a little bit of everything but you come away with not enough of anything

WIll post stats later... but 3 guys with 40%+ cReb%, a handful of threes and a shortage of FTAs. Decent DEF for 42 mil. Worry about getting enough out of Hakeem. Probably the best 2nd rounder I have ever had and yet the hardest to build from.

Posting Evans and Gadzuric was a mistake. Needed to post a Guard in the event of injury. If I lose Paul or Martin to injury I am open to forfeit each game not played. Not worried about Paul but using 2200 minute Martin anything can happen.
