That's true. It's basically his FGA+FTA+TO compared to the team's on a per minute basis. On a per 36 basis, he has 60% more FTA and FGA than Arizin, but only 40% higher usage%.

The old seasons are a gray area (basketball stats did not calculate any percentages), but in this particular case I believe his usage should be at least 40.

Using the 10 player-seasons in the WIS database (there were 2 other players who logged some minutes for the team that year that aren't in the WIS database), the team had 19603 minutes, 9006 FGA, 3252 FTA, 1638 TO, which comes to about 12075 possessions (using the FGA+TO+0.44*FTA formula). Wilt has 3980 minutes, 3238 FGA, 1398 FTA, 447 TO, which comes to about 4300 possessions. (12075/(3980*5))*(4300/12075) comes to about a 35.1% usage%, which is fairly close to the WIS usage% of 36.1%.
