Summer of '49 Needs 1 Good Owner Topic

For a long time, Summer of '49 was one of those also-ran worlds (you know the type - rampant tanking, 50% turnover every couple of years).

No more.

Our level of competition has dramatically increased - wins for the top team has decreased over the last 3 seasons from 110 to 108 to 103; the number of teams below 60 wins hit a new low of 2 this year (1 owner was clearly tanking and is gone).  We're dedicated to enforcing our minimum wins requirement (check the Private World Rules).  And we keep raising the standards for ownership (sorry, no newbies).

So we're looking for 2 GOOD owners.  If you're the kind of owner who likes to come in, overpay for a bunch of free agents in an attempt to win big for 1 year (and then leave), that's OK, but we're not a good world for you.

If you're the kind of owner who likes to come in, dump all the salaries, tank for 5 years, and build a super-team with draft picks and internationals, that's OK, but we're not a good world for you.

BUT, if you're the kind of owner who likes to come in with a long-term plan to improve your team and compete year-in-year-out, we might be for you.

Here's our last available team -  contact commish gtnotes:

NL East:  This team went on a pretty good run a couple of years back (1st or 2nd in the division 8 years straight), then hit 3 1-season owners with the predictable result.  So it's a turnaround, but one that has the first couple of steps already behind it.

At the big-league level they have a couple of young assets in Jhonny Corpas and Furio Greenwood, surrounded by mediocrity.  They have 5 players with bigger-than-minimum contracts and 2 are dumpable this year (the other 3 next year) - the payroll situation is decent this season and very favorable next year if you want to speed up the rebuilding with internationals.

The farm system isn't quite ready to start pumping out talent yet, but they do have last year's #1 overall (Archie Marion) at High A - they'll also have the #4 overall this year.

Great project for a reasonably patient rebuilding owner.  Certainly not impossible to sign a bunch of free agents and contend this year, but I'd love to see someone be competitive with some bargain-bin FA's and snag top-level IFA's the next couple of seasons.

I'd be interested in that NL South team.  Just sent a site mail to your commish.  Thanks!
