Minnesota should make a hard play for Dwight Topic

I don't even think it should matter if he signs an extension, though I would push hard for him to at least opt in for next year like chris paul.

Something like this, while not equal value, isn't pennies on the dollar and would be a highly competitive offer. 

Minnesota - Dwight, Hedo, and (Harper and Liggins who would be cut anyway)
Orlando - Pekovic, Williams, Beasley, Webster, Ridnour

Some minor changes could be implemented like swap Beasley for Johnson and Randolph (dollars work that way) which might be more appealing to Orlando, but either way gives Orlando some very recent high picks, a solid center prospect, and an influx of talent all on reasonable contracts.

Minnesota then trots out a rotation with Dwight, Love, Rubio, Johnson, Barea, Hedo, Randolph, Tolliver, Ellington, and Darko and would probably instantly be one of the favorites in the West.

That trade is ridiculous for both teams.  TWolves gut their roster that they've been building for the last couple seasons for hopefully 1 season of success, and Orlando gets a handful of maybes and so-sos for one of the best players in the League.

Let's not get crazy now.  Minnesota hasn't made the playoffs in 8 years (and thus could use a deep playoff run) and keeps Love and Rubio as well as some other young players.  Orlando gets 2 recent top 4 draft picks, a 2nd year center that has become a 17/10 player as a starter, and some solid young role players for a player that is gone after the season and a bad long term contract.

Bynum is injury prone and only has 1 year left.  He is a better player, but there are concerns when it is just 1 injury prone player who may or may not re-sign with your franchise after the 2012-13 season.  The draft picks will be at the end of the first round so while Orlando might find a diamond in the rough the odds are better that the pick doesn't pan out.

So it makes sense to you to for Minnesota to trade for a guy for about 40 games, but doesn't make sense for Orlando to trade for a guy that has a season and half left on his deal?

dont forget the part where the Magic have a good chance extending Bynum whereas the Wolves have no chance of resigning Howard

No what I'm saying is Orlando might feel much better about getting more people who have better contract situations, than one player that is always hurt and only has a year and a half left.

I wouldn't actually bet on that.  I mean if Howard is serious about wanting to win, he isn't going to do much better than playing with Love and Rubio, especially when they can offer him a lot more money.

or how about dwight finishes out the year, leaves orlando, and signs with philly who has the cap space when they amnesty brand and dont sign hawes....big market, young, fun team, best d in the league, good coach, plenty of guys to set him up for easy buckets, and he gets to be the main man on an instant contender with a bright future....of course dwight wont do this because we dont have any "superstars"

Okay, but why would Minnesota gut their team for half a season of Dwight Howard?

If you want another interesting offer that would never happen, how bout:

OKC receives Dwight Howard

ORL receives Kendrick Perkins, James Harden, Serge Ibaka, and Ryan Reid (for salary purposes)

Not interesting, just silly.  Why would OKC trade those guys for 40 games of Howard?  Howard's had plenty of chances to expand his "I'll resign with" list, but hasn't, so discussing trades to any other teams is silly, because nobody is going to pay Orlando's price to get him for 40 games.

agreed

wittle down all of the crap and it's basically "derrick williams and nikola pekovic" which is <<< Bynum alone.

they need to give up love or rubio to make it happen.  pre-season i thought it'd be cool if they traded rubio + williams for paul and love for howard and just beasted on teams.  idea would be that havnig paul and howard both might end up staying if it works out, but now it's just pointless unless lolotis wants to accept a terrible lowball offer.
