FALCONS BEAT BEARS IN SCORING SENSATION, 52-23
Sometimes you can not be traditional. This game was not in traditional Bears fashion. RB Maurice Smith was a beast for the Falcons. 161 yards, 2 TD's? A beast. Not to be left out, Jamal Anderson had 71 yards and a TD. The 2 combined for 50 recieving yards, also. Chris Chandler had a roller coaster ride of a game. 14/21, 223 yards, 4 TD's sound like a good game but he had 3 interceptions, and a 101.9 passer rating. Terrance Mathis had 40 recieving yards and a TD. Shawn Jefferson had 39 yards and a TD. Tony Martin had 23 yards, but 2 TD's. Brian Finneran and Alge Crumpler also made solid contributions. Patrick Kerney had 2 sacks. The Bears could never get a great running game going, and the passing game faltered, as Ed Brown went 8/25 with 82 yards, a TD and 2 Interceptions. George Blanda went 3/7 with 59 yards and a TD. Brown had a 22.4 passer rating, Blanda 112.5. Receiver Harlon Hill had 48 yards and 2 TD's. Bill George had 2 sacks and Ken Gorgal had 2 interceptions. The game was close at the half, 24-16 Falcons, but the Falcons pulled away in the 2nd half. The Falcons and Bears were consistant through all 4 quarters: The Falcons had 14 in the 1st, 10 in the 2nd, 14 in the 3rd, and 14 in the 4th. The Bears had 7 in the 1st, 9 in the 2nd, 7 in the 3rd, and none in the 4th.
