Wow! I love it! Hakeem and DrJ are both great in this format

Klay is a very interesting pick. I like it, I just didn’t expect it. Makes sense though, he’s got 5 good seasons and is great at what he does.
he was my round 2 pipe dream...."no one will notice his 5 perfect seasons because hes usually a 3rd round pick in the odl/52 and hes so weak at reb/ast muuuuhahaha klay/kareem are gonna kill it!"

Ben seems like a plausible candidate for it. In draft leagues he never seems to be set in a particular mold. He has tried some pretty wild swings in the ODL. I am so conditioned in my mind to dismiss both of those players at this point.

This is the most random SMing I have done with people since the death of Shtickless. It is like this league woke up the community.

You also never have to change your strategy with him because all the seasons are basically the same.

dont really remember ben building many elite d teams centered around 50% efg guys...but i could be wrong

No I don't think he has. But he has done like all high shooting team, all rebounding team, all assist team... I guess my point is more than most (me included), he isn't pigeonholed into a particular style and is pretty adaptive. I usually find him pretty unpredictable until the third round when you can kind of see what he is doing.

I’ll post more thoughts later, but lot of talk about Work: my plan on the turn was to get Worm & Giannis. They would have paired together positionally exceptionally well with the “am I pf or sf” thing they each go through. I thought Giannis might last to early round 2 because of that fifth season being meh and his best season being lower minutes. Of course, there’s nothing saying Ben wouldn’t’ve ****** up my plans, but that close to the turn, I felt good about other potential partners for Worm, and you should, too!

Regarding Klay... he’s the best high usage + efg% guy left that I see, has good to great defense, low tov%, and is unparalleled from distance in this format. He also has **** rebounds and **** dimes so, yeah.
giannis and rodman together just blew my mind....you were close too

I don’t think a team of Erving and Olajuwon would do well in the ODL haha. The ODL is all about value. This league? I guess we will see.

He wasn’t getting Giannis, Rodman. That was my plan A too. Ash said he was going to take Rodman 1st so I would have had Giannis and probably gone Klay or (undrafted) to pair with him.

Personally, I find Hakeem and Erving really hard to build around, but you could pretty easily make the case that the most easily sustainable model to draft and reproduce across five seasons is the all elite defense team. And both give you tons of minutes minutes at 100 defense over and over and over again. It isn't what I would have predicted but it is pretty smart.
Any other direction I thought to go in I was just going to be doing the same things as the top few guys just with worse players.
Yep yep yep. My logic as well.

And there it is. Oscar Robertson ... top of the 2nd round. That's the player that rarely gets drafted that I thought would go early. I also love Hakeem in this format. Great picks as expected from Ben and Ash.

So Oscar just kind of came out of left field for me. I'm not in love with it, but here's my reasoning:

Klay is fantastic but low on minutes, rebounds, and assists.
I was looking at (guy A - now drafted, Steve Nash) who would be an incredible fit with Klay as he doubles up on what Klay does well (usg%, efg% - particularly 3s - can you imagine that backcourt bombers?!) and gives a ton of dimes, but has some severe weaknesses I didn't want to mess with (defense, turnovers, doubles up on the board weakness of Klay)
I was looking at (guy B) who would be an incredible fit with Klay who makes up for his weaknesses and gives a ton of dimes but has some of the opposite severe weaknesses I didn't want to mess with.
I was looking at (guy C) who would give me flexibility on down the road by providing boards, D, a ton of minutes, good number of dimes from the position, and positional flexibility, but all of this talk about run on point guards is real. So I started looking at guys that gave me five seasons of what I wanted to pair up with Klay and judge if any of them would make it back to me.

I though that maybe - MAYBE - one might, but Ben picks ahead of me in round 3 and hasn't picked a PG yet, so that confirmed I was going to go with a PG. I loosened my search parameters just a bit, and all of the sudden, the Big O was staring at me.

Klay's bad at boards. Oscar grabs lots of them.
Klay's bad at dimes. Oscar sends out enough (one likely season of use is less than 25% ast%; rest are above)
Klay's short on minutes. Oscar has like 8 seasons over 3400 minutes.
Oscar has solid usage every season.
Oscar has 50% or higher efg% every season I'm thinking of using him, including a 54% and a couple over 52%.
Oscar has 70+ defense most of the seasons I'm considering.
Oscar has a ton of usable seasons so there's flexibility there, too.

In the end, it just seemed to make sense. It opens up doors for me in round 3, where I can go in many different directions, where if I had gone with guy A or guy B, I was going to be forced to take a certain type of player in round 3. If I had gone guy C, I'd be forced to take a PG in round 3 that I wasn't happy with.

Of course, Oscar may have made it to round 3. I don't know. Also, I won one of my $52m draft titles with Oscar, though granted, that was A LONG TIME AGO
