7,823 yards passing... That's ok with me
WR#1 Warren Ward: 120 rec, 1,928 yards, 20 tds... HANDS RATING: 27 (TWENTY SEVEN)
WR#2 Steve Robinson: 91 rec, 1,664 yards, 20 tds... HANDS RATING: 21 (TWENTY ONE)
WR#3 John Houston: 88 rec, 1,498 yards, 13 tds... HANDS RATING: 46 (FOURTY SIX)
I'm awaiting my knowledge lesson
Folks,
Rather than spending time cursing the darkness, let us try to light a candle instead.
Not saying I have the answer, or that receivers with crappy hands should perform well, but clearly there must be another attribute that would compensate and allow the high level of performance. How about Speed??? (Intuitively, fast receivers should be more open, and result in easier catches even if WRs are all thumbs???)
Speed of top 4 C. Oklahoma pass catching receivers
Ward spd = 88
Robinson spd = 91
Houston spd = 91
McIntyre spd = 84
Avg = 88.5

Clearly the CO receivers had a large speed advantage in comparison vs. other receivers.
What about DBs? Again, speed for starting DBs of CO playoff opponents:

So, CO receivers had a large speed advantage vs. the DBs of each opponent except for Morehouse where the difference is negligible. Again, not saying this explains everything (and certainly not that it *should* explain everything), but it could be a clue... I guess if a WR recruit has bad hands, they'd better have blazing speed??? Also, haven't done a systematic analysis, but it looks like they threw short quite a bit. Maybe the secret if you have stone-handed receivers is to throw short and let them run??? Just some food for thought....
