Question re $70M theme:

Is Ruth eligible in the OF in 1918? It was his "first" season in WIS in the OF. 1915-17 were pitcher only seasons in WIS.

Thanks.
Good question! He would only be eligible for 1915 (or 1935 of course)

Question about the variable cap league.
When you say "distinct franchises" are we to go by BBR like the 110m league? Or are teams like the Browns/Orioles considered distinct franchises?
Thanks
Same as the 110M league. I'll clarify in the post

Question for the 110M theme:

Player plays for two franchises in same season. Can the cloned player be rostered using only the partial season stats from each team?

WIS never allows you to draft two versions of the same player from the same season. It's automatically blocked in the Draft Center.

General FYI -- I think this has a chance to be one of the more competitive WISC fields ever. I'm going to run an analysis at some point over the next week or two to determine how the different years rank against each other in terms of difficulty. Hoping to get this done before I need to do owner rankings for this year so that I can weight past results by tournament difficulty
Not a perfect measure, but interesting nonetheless. Last year's tournament was the "most difficult" in a decade
Year___ Owner Lifetime Avg___ Rank
2004 48.5 14
2005 51.3 15
2006 44.7 4
2007 42.9 1
2008 43.6 2
2009 48.1 13
2010 47.8 12
2011 45.2 5
2012 46.6 10
2013 45.6 7
2014 46.5 9
2015 45.2 6
2016 45.7 8
2017 47.8 11
2018 44.3 3

For the $110M theme can we use more than 3 versions of our chosen player? Hypothetically, could we use a Red Sox Babe Ruth season, two Yankees seasons, and a Braves season? (I know his Braves season wouldn't qualify for the theme as it's below $1M, but was just the first example that came to mind.)

No, you are only allowed 3 versions of your player.

Q&A for 70M Theme

Q: Are players who played in 2017 but not 2018, but are playing in 2019, allowed?
A: Yes, this will be allowed for ease of roster verification. Same goes for players who played before 1885 but not in 1885 and then again after 1885.

Q: Are players who played as both hitters and pitchers available twice for their "first" and "last" seasons? (i.e. Babe Ruth in 1918)
A: No, Ruth would only be available in 1915 and 1935.
OK...

Lady Baldwin did not have a WIS qualified year in 1884 (obviously)
The rules ban use of his first year of 1885.
Can I choose 1886?

Second...

Pete Conway's 1889 season is Not in WIS

Therefore his 1888 season is eligible....right?

Both are eligible in the seasons you mention, yes.
6/10/2019 1:58 PM
Interesting...I would have assumed 1886 Baldwin is not eligible.
6/10/2019 2:38 PM
It's just based on the first and last season a player is in the WIS database. This makes roster checking very easy, as opposed to extremely manual/tedious.
6/10/2019 2:40 PM
Right...1886 is NOT Baldwin's first season...1885 is. If you allow Baldwin 1886, then you are effectively allowing EVERY player from 1886.

My interpretation was that only players who show up using the "First/Last Season" filter in the search engine would be eligible.
6/10/2019 2:48 PM
Oh -- sorry, I misread the question.

1886 Baldwin is NOT eligible. Players who played in 1885 effectively only have a "last" season for this theme, while players who played in 2018 effectively only have a "first" season.

Thanks for that clarification; that is definitely not how the explanation was coming off up to this point. It sounded like we could use a 2017 season for an active player, but not 2018.
6/11/2019 11:20 AM
Isn't the easy way to determine eligibility to simply click "First/Last Season" = "First and Last" while also choosing Years 1886 thru 2017? The search engine does all the work. No need to go to baseball-reference for this theme.
