I saw her in the hospital the month before. I heard a nurses assistant in the hall say, "She won't notice she's retarded." Her eyes welled with tears she heard it and it hurt her. I didn't punch the nurse but did report her. Previous experiences made it a very hurtful word. You don't have to personally know of those experiences to realize that.

No one has the right to tell anyone what should offend them and what shouldn't. Had anyone (male) said, shes retarded in hearing distance of her, it would have been offensive to me it would have hurt her. The punch in the mouth should be no surprise.

I now see the chicken**** remark was about the one who deleted their post. I hope this makes some sense to you. It is an emotional subject not because of the condition itself, but peoples cruelty to those least able to defend themselves.
