Game 118: Sammy Stewarts lets things get away in the ninth inning and the Zoo score three times to snap a 5-5 tie. Dan Quisenberry retires the Riders in order in the ninth and Milwaukee drops an 8-5 decision.

Game 119: Britt Burns takes his usual beating, the bullpen offers little help, and the Riders waste a rare offensive outburst in a 10-7 loss to Houston. Hooligan Jim Rice has five hits.

Game 120: Milwaukee keeps hitting and the bullpen gets its act together late; Milwaukee edges Houston 10-9 in 13 innings to close interleague play. Hal McRae singles home Roy Smalley with the winner.

Milwaukee returns to AL play with a road trip to Cleveland. The Riders have dropped eight games behind San Diego.

Game 122: For the second straight game, Willie Aikens hits a two-run homer; Rich Gossage throws a clean ninth this time and the Riders take a 5-3 win.

Game 123
: John Montefusco goes seven innings and gets just enough support to pick up his 16th victory, 3-2 over the Saltdogs. Rich Gossage throws another perfect ninth, striking out two, and gets his third save of the series.

The Riders return to Milwaukee to face the first place Conquistadors.
6/23/2010 11:25 PM
Game 124: San Diego comes out swinging and knocks Britt Burns out of the box after four innings, scoring eight runs in the process. Milwaukee gets a three-run homer from Reggie Smith in the eighth but can narrow the deficit to only four, losing 10-6.

Game 125: Manny Sarmiento restores some form of order and the Riders score four times in the third, evening the series with a 5-3 victory.

Game 126
: With two down and none on in the eighth, the Riders, trailing 5-2, start a rally. Consecutive singles by Bill Madlock and Reggie Smith put runners on the corners, prompting San Diego to call for Rollie Fingers. Damaso Garcia singles. Roy Smalley singles. Bruce Benedict singles. Suddenly the game is tied. Tim Raines hits a fly ball... but Alan Wiggins botches it! Riders take the lead. Rich Gossage gives the lead right back in the ninth, however, as the Conquistadors stage their own two-out rally. Milwaukee goes meekly in the ninth; San Diego gets a two-out walk in the 10th but Sammy Stewart gets the final out with no damage. With one down in the bottom half, Damaso Garcia singles. He then reclaims a share of the team's stolen base lead, swiping second. When Roy Smalley singles to left, Garcia comes charging around third, beating Wiggins' throw to score the game-winner.

The Riders narrow San Diego's lead to six games and will host Minnesota next.

Game 128: John Montefusco has an early exit, walking five in four innings, and the Lame Ducks romp to an 11-2 win over Milwaukee.

Game 129
: In a roller-coaster of a game, Jerry Mumphrey sends the game to extras with an RBI single in the ninth, but the Lame Ducks score twice in the 10th on Mike Schmidt's single and take the series with an 8-6 win.

The Riders head to Atlanta to face Georgia Force.
6/24/2010 11:23 PM (edited)
Game 130: Rich Gossage allows a two-run homer to Gary Carter in the ninth, but still walks away with a save as the Riders hold off Georgia Force 6-5. Bill Madlock's two-run single capped a four-run eighth that gave Milwaukee a 6-3 lead.

6/25/2010 9:51 PM (edited)

Rich Gossage allows a runner in the ninth but coaxes a game-ending double play grounder for his 37th save.

Game 134
: Milwaukee is held scoreless through five innings but starts hitting in the sixth and puts six runs on the board over the next three innings to beat the Commandos 6-1. Britt Burns goes six strong innings and improves his record to 8-13. Roy Smalley reaches base four times, all via the base on balls.

Game 135
: Milwaukee scores early in this one, putting three on the board in the second, but then does nothing for the rest of the game and drops a 4-3 decision as Washington avoids the sweep.

The Mammoths are in town next.
6/27/2010 10:37 AM

Game 137: The Riders tie the game at seven on Damaso Garcia's eighth-inning single, but the Mammoths regain the lead off Sammy Stewart in the ninth with two singles and a sacrifice fly.  Lee Smith allows a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth, but Richie Hebner grounds into a fielder's choice and Hal McRae bounces into a game-ending double play, giving New York an 8-7 win.

Game 138: Willie Aikens and Bill Madlock hit consecutive RBI doubles in the seventh to snap a 5-5 tie, and Rich Gossage works around some trouble in the ninth for his 39th save as the Riders defeat the Mammoths 7-5.

6/28/2010 11:15 PM (edited)
Game 142: Milwaukee takes an early 6-1 lead, but starter Rick Sutcliffe gives most of that lead away in the fifth and Bruce Kison finishes the job in the sixth. Milwaukee drops their third game in the last four decisions, 8-7.

Game 143: John Montefusco has next to nothing (12 runners allowed in five innings) and the Saltdogs have not one, not two, but THREE 3-run innings on the way to an 11-3 rout of the Riders.

Game 144
: Bruce Benedict hits two doubles and drives in three runs as the Riders salvage the series finale, beating Cleveland 8-5 and handing Bill Laskey only his third loss of the season. Rich Gossage pitches a perfect ninth for his 41st save.

The Riders host first-place San Diego next, but trailing by nine games it is not a particularly important series.
6/29/2010 10:38 PM (edited)
Game 145: The Riders fall behind 7-2 early as Manny Sarmiento gets pounded. Milwaukee scores once in the fifth but strands two. They strand three more runners over the next two innings, but finally rally for three runs in the ninth. Bill Madlock's bases-loaded single puts runners on the corners; Bob Stanley enters the game to face Reggie Smith and coaxes a grounder to second. Riders fall just short, 7-6.

Game 146: Tommy John throws seven shutout innings as the Riders stun San Diego 3-0 to even the series.

Game 147: The Conquistadors blast Rick Sutcliffe (as well as a couple of relievers); Rod Carew hits two home runs to pace a 12-hit San Diego attack in a 12-3 rout.

With that loss, the Riders give up second place in the division to the surging Lame Ducks, who have won seven in a row. As luck would have it, the schedule takes us to Minneapolis next.
6/30/2010 11:00 PM (edited)

Game 150: The Milwaukee bullpen has another disastrous outing as the Ducks score seven times in the sixth, seventh and eighth to pull away for a 9-6 win.

Milwaukee heads home to face Georgia Force.
