Garcia (illness) was claimed off waivers by the Jets, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Garcia was waived by the Patriots over the weekend after missing the entire 2017 season with blood clots in his lungs. The 2017 third-rounder will now get a chance to prove himself on another AFC East team.

Jets' J.J. Wilcox: Reneges on 49ers, heads to Jets
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox backed out of a deal with the 49ers and is expected to ink a deal with the Jets instead, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Despite agreeing to terms on a one-year contract with the 49ers, Wilcox backed out for unclear reasons. Cimini had sources report that it was either stage fright or a desire to play for Jets head coach Todd Bowles. Either way, Wilcox should be in green and white come Week 1. Bowles has expressed that all 22 starting positions are up for grabs, but Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye both manned the two safety roles as rookies in 2017 and will be looking to make major strides in their development this offseason. This will make it tough for Wilcox to earn a starting job. The 27-year-old slotted into a limited role with the Steelers last season and was held to 12 tackles in 12 games, so he projects as a rotational safety in 2018.

Jets' Courtney Upshaw: Signs with Jets
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Upshaw has signed a contract with the Jets.

Upshaw spent the early years of his career playing outside linebacker in Baltimore's 3-4 scheme, but he has spent the past couple of seasons with a hand in the dirt at either defensive end or defensive tackle for the Falcons. Now at 272 pounds, he will return to a 3-4 scheme in New York, though it wouldn't be surprising if the Jets keep him at defensive end. Either way, the 2012 second-round pick's versatility should give him a shot to play on Sundays this fall.

Darnold dealing

Have the Jets finally found a quarterback????

Well, we'll have to wait until the real games start if we want to find out. But Sam Darnold got off to a heck of a start in his preseason debut. Darnold entered the game midway through the second quarter and looked fantastic throwing the ball to all levels of the field. He completed 9 of 11 passes in the first half for 74 yards and a touchdown to Charles Johnson.

Darnold actually completed two touchdown passes to Johnson on the drive, but the first one was called back on a (very weak) offensive pass interference penalty.

Of course, Darnold did all this against what was mostly the Falcons' second- and third-string defense. But you can only throw passes against the defenders who are lined up against you, and so that's what Darnold did. And he could hardly have done better than he did in the first half against the Falcons.

Darnold was not quite as electric after halftime, as he finished the game 13 of 18 for 96 yards and the aforementioned score. (That's 4 of 7 for 22 yards in the second half.) The Jets did not give him many opportunities to push the ball down the field, but he also did not really attempt to test the defense vertically outside of the initial play design. He ended the evening with a strong completion rate but only an average of 5.3 yards per attempt.

Touchdown Teddy

Josh McCown got the start under center, but his game-opening drive went pretty much nowhere before New York punted. Said punt pinned the Falcons back near their only goal line, and they ended up quickly kicking back to the Jets. When New York took the field for its second drive of the game, it was Teddy Bridgewater under center.

And Bridgewater looked really good! He went 4 of 5 for 37 yards in his first drive as a Jet, converting a fourth-down conversion and ending the drive with a touchdown toss to fellow newcomer Isaiah Crowell.

Jets' Darnold looks like rookie in 15-13 loss to Redskins

LANDOVER, Md. (AP) Limited playing experience in high school and college makes Sam Darnold appreciate every game, even if it's just the preseason.

The third overall pick made his first exhibition start for the New York Jetson Thursday night and showed some of the growing pains of a rookie quarterback by throwing an interception , taking two sacks and having a couple of balls batted out of the air.

Darnold was 8 of 11 for 62 yards in the first half before giving way to Teddy Bridgewater in a game the Jets lost to the Washington Redskins15-13 on a last-second field goal.

''Any game experience is huge,'' said Darnold, who felt he played well but wasn't as sharp as his 13 of 18 for 96 yards preseason debut. ''I feel like I'm going to continue to grow and get better every single day, and that's what I'm most excited about is to see how much I'm going to be able to grow and get better.''

Darnold went in looking like the front-runner to win New York's starting QB competition, and it's still muddled after Bridgewater was 10 of 15 for 127 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Veteran Josh McCown didn't play after starting the first preseason game because coach Todd Bowles already knows what he has in the 39-year-old.

''It's already been cloudy,'' Bowles said. ''It'll be a tough choice.''

Darnold showed flashes for the Jets (1-1), going 5 of 5 on his second drive but was sacked by Preston Smith to force a field goal on a night full of them. Bridgewater took some intentional risks to test the left knee he injured two years ago to the point Bowles joked he had a neighborhood he could send the former Vikings quarterback to if he wanted to get hit.

''Some of those plays, I could've thrown the ball away or run out of bounds, but I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could take a hit and it was fun,'' Bridgewater said.

Teddy Bridgewater headed to Saints after New Orleans pulls off huge trade with Jets

It looks like the Saints have found the heir apparent to Drew Brees

Before the start of the preseason, the Jets made it clear that they'd be open to trading away Teddy Bridgewater for the right price and it appears that they've found a team willing to pay that price.

The Jets have made a deal with the Saints that will send Bridgewater to New Orleans, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora has confirmed. According to ESPN.com, the Saints will be sending a 2018 third-round pick to New York in exchange for the quarterback. The Jets will also be including a sixth-round pick in the package being sent to New Orleans.

Bridgewater was actually on the team bus headed for the Jets final preseason gamein Philadelphia when he found out about the trade. According to NFL.com, the bus, which was about to leave the team facility, let Bridgewater off after the trade went down.

Jets coach Todd Bowles announces Sam Darnold will start season opener on MNF

The No. 3 overall pick is the team's starter from Day 1

As ESPN's Adam Schefter noted, Darnold will be the youngest opening-day starting quarterback ever.

The Jets made Darnold the No. 3 overall pick out of USC, selecting him after trading the No. 6 overall selection and three second-round picks to the Indianapolis Colts for the right to move up those three spots. There was some question about whether or not Darnold would even be there for them to pick, as rumors connected him to both the Browns at No. 1 and the Giants at No. 2, but he ultimately slipped into the Jets' laps.

This can't go well.......
