MLD RULE BOOK (Updated Feb 2012 - Eliminating NP Bonus)
Recent Rule Changes
Bonus Removal (Effective as off Season 30)
The Non-Playoff Bonus will no longer be awarded, the Yr29-30 offseason was the final time this particular bonus was awarded
RULE REGARDING PLAYOFF ELIGILIBILTY:
FOR SKATERS, players must play 20 or more regular season game in that season to be eligible for playoff roster.
FOR GOALIES, only the goalies on your team with the top 2 TOI totals in that regular season are eligible for playoff roster(Starting Season 21)
Players(FWDs and DEFs) without 20 regular season games played are INELIGIBLE for playoffs.
EXCEPTION – First season prospects (only the ones drafted LAST offseason) are allowed in playoffs even when playing less than 20 regular season games.
Use of an ineligible player may result in automatic loss of any playoff games with TOI.
Player Retirements
Player retirements for
skaters (Once salary goes above 750k, player must retire*) *=except Franchise Players
Player retirements for
goalies (Once they hit the regular season career total of 250 TOI, they must retire*) *=except Franchise Players
Any skater who plays a total of 20 or more regular season games in any given season automatically qualifies for a salary increase for the next season.
Any skater who plays 19 or less regular season games in any given season will have their salary remain unchanged
Franchise Players (aka FPs)
Franchise Players are a single player you deem to be your most important puzzle piece.
Franchise Players who are
skaters have a 1,500,000 unit career limit. Once they demand more, you need to retire them.
Franchise Players who are
goalies must retire when they reach the regular season career total of 350 TOI.
Franchise Player Restrictions And Specifics
Players MUST have played their entire career for your franchise to qualify to be your designated FP. (Players who are traded for CANNOT become your FP)
FPs CANNOT be traded
For skater FPs, it is 1.5 million units and then he gets retired. (roughly the 9 season limit for FPs that was originally planned)

GM Contracts
Every once in awhile, usually as we get closer to our final "covered" MLD season, the commish will contact every GM to see if they would like to continue to compete in the MLD. GMs who wish to continue must purchase the requested "X" amount of "full season" teams. These teams will be collected from everyone and the MLD as a whole will be extended for "X" seasons. If you choose not to continue, the MLD reserves the right to find a replacement for you and hire a new GM to take over your franchise.
Failure to actively manage your team may also result in you essentially getting fired from your franchise.
Draft Picks Bonuses
Bottom 6 Bonus - The bottle finishing 6 teams of the regular season get support here. The last place team picks 1st in the draft and gets a 12 point bonus to each skill attribute added if skater, 1st pick =12, 2nd =10, 3rd =8, 4th =6, 5th =4, 6th =2. IF A goalie is selected, the bonus is cut in half.
Non Playoff Teams - Since they miss out on the playoff improvements, the teams who do not make the playoffs are given a +3 to Stamina, Shooting, and Skating. This also helps those teams to better compete in the following season.
The "Sidney Crosby Bonus" - awarded to teams who've consistantly floated at the bottom of the standings. This bonus will apply to any team that has at any point missed the playoffs for 3 consecutive seasons. I'd like to call it the "Crosby-Bonus" as it is intended to hopefully resurrect some life into these struggling franchises. This bonus, will see a team who qualifies for the "Crosby-Bonus" have their 1st round pick jacked up to an elite level, +20 in stamina (if possible), +20 in shooting, +20 in skating, and +20 in Defense. If a goalie is selected as their 1st pick, they'll get +10 in saving and +10 stamina added. Once a team receives the "Crosby-Bonus", they must miss the playoffs for another 3 consecutive seasons to qualify for another "Crosby-Bonus"
When will these boneses show up?
These bonuses are inputed after the draft is complete and signing deadline is passed, when they will show up on your MLD roster varies. Sometimes its before, sometimes it is AFTER the 1st game of the regular season is played for that particular season. Rest assured, your bonuses WILL show up. If you feel you did not receive bonuses you were due to receive, contact the commish and he will look into it.
Examples of tricky MLD scenerios and explanations for them
Goalie Retirement - A non-FP goalie finishes a season and has a regular career TOI total of 249:59:59. Since he has not officially hit the TOI regular season career limit of 250* needed to determine retirement, he is able to stay on the roster for the following season.
GOALIES CAREER TOI LIMIT IS 250 TOI
FP GOALIES CAREER TOI LIMIT IS 350 TOI
Changing Your FP - A GM can opt to change their franchise's FP in the OFF SEASON ONLY. ALL FP Restrictions still apply. (see above)
