51. I remember Mazeroski sending the Yankees home crying the blues like Gate Mouth Brown. I remember Ken Boyer crushing a grand slam to lift the Cards to a 4 - 3 win over those dreaded Yankees. I remember the first Angels teams with Albie Pearson. I remember the Toy Cannon, the Spaceman, Jim Boutin and "Ball 4" (Glad you didn't take it personally). And I will always remember the favorites of my youth, the Orioles with Jim Gentile and Luis Aparicio soon to be set aside for the da Boog and the great O's of the late 60's and early 70's. I still rememeber the first time I saw a baseball game on a COLOR TV. As a kid in school, I made all my Christmas money betting on the series. I can stil see the beauty of Chavez Ravine as the Robbies, Brooks and Frank launch first inning homers against Don Drysdale. Summer days were spent with Strat-o-matic, APBA, and a number of others. I remember the excitement when I unwrapped a new pack of cards and found the 1961 Roger Maris! And they say that memory is the last part of a guy to go soft... I think NOT! Go Orioles! (and this from an Oregonian, no less)

53 and old enough to remember Frank Verdi being shot in the ear by a Havana fan and Tom Decker trying to recreate another game played there when Fidel shut down the Western Union office to cause a 60 minute "rain delay".

Also old enough to have run from the school bus into my living room to catch the bottom of the 9th in 1960 World Series game 7. After waiting two minutes for the b&w tv to warm up, the first sight I saw was that goddamn Mazeroski landing on home plate! Even before JFK said it, I found out that life isn't fair.

And old enough to remember "Born Too Late" by the Pony Tails hitting the charts. If I were only 56, I'd have first-hand recollections of Satchel Paige pitching in the IL.

Nice memories, kidvolt. I LOVED that homer by Maz. As a Dodger fan the whole 63 series was heaven.

rback - I still have hundreds (1000's) of 3x5 cards that I used to represent my sim players. It was a lot o fun, but modern computer sims sure are easier.

GrandWiz - Obviously the Maz homer and the 63 series would have looked different from your side. Reggie got even later.

I was 8 in 1953 when I started saving my baseball cards instead of giving them to my cousin. Still have complete set: 1953 Topps.
First WS memory: Willie Mays' catch and Dusty Rhodes' homers.
Got to see Musial play. Don't remember who it was rebel, but I remember the story was that Stan and the guy were battling for the BA title, so they let Stan pitch to him.
