If a split in Cincy isn't enough to convince Doug Melvin he's a buyer, I don't know what will be.

My buddy, the Reds fan, thinks they can win the Central. It's not often a sub .500 team after the A/S break thinks they can win the division.

It's not often a division is so full of mediocrity.

It's not often a division sucks like the NLC does this year.

FWIW, I still say the Cubs win the division by at least 5 games.

Brewers give up outfielder Cole Gillespie and pitcher Roque Mercedes.

Anything special, Brewer fans?
7/19/2009 6:24 PM
Gillespie has a terrible arm and is probably limited to LF with not much of a ceiling (that's the general view, anyway). Mercedes has a higher ceiling but has a long way to go before he's major league ready.

Mat Gamel sent back to AAA to get regular playing time.

Seems like an odd move; there general opinion was that a deal with Arizona would include Doug Davis or Jon Garland.

I wonder if this will make the Deputy happy.

Hopefully this means we've seen the last of Jason Kendall leading off.

The best part of this deal.

I like that they now have a leadoff man. I do not like that they still have Mike Burns in the rotation.

NEWSFLASH: Felipe Lopez sucks.

One thing I'll say about the Brewers... when they lose, they're quick to determine which umpire to blame.

So does Cole Gillespie.

Brewers had their top scout and assistant GM Gord Ash in Toronto to watch Halladay pitch this weekend.. starting to be some low buzz around town that this thing might actually happen. Phillies now so far in front of East that they may have reduced the urgency level of acquiring Halladay.

Fox Sports says the Brewers are one of the teams pursuing Baltimore reliever George Sherrill, Buster Olney thinks the Crew is a possible suitor for Brad Penny.
