NL Central favorite, my ***; you're hilarious.
Have you seen the standings this season? I'm not sure you have.

Cent W L GB
STL 51 43 --
CHC 47 43 2.0
MIL 47 45 3.0

If you don't think the Brewers would be NL Central favorites this year with Halladay, you're absolutely fooling yourself. This is not 2008; the Cubs are not very good.
Yeah, but as a disinterested outsider, neither are the Brewers, and making up 3 games in the, what, 16 or so that Halladay would pitch is still a pretty tall order.

The Cubs have largely the same personnel that had last year - they could certainly keep playing right around .500, but now that they are getting healthy, they could also easily go a run.

In all seriousness, are you drunk?
He's got a .360+ OBP this season, .370+ when batting leadoff.

OBP by season:

'05 .352
'06 .358
'07 .308
'08 .343 (.426 after signing with Cards)
'09 .364

One bad season in the past half decade. And his career OBP is marred by 4 seasons (age 21-24) that he got limited playing time and didn't perform.

Halladay and Gallardo would be a formidable 1 and 2 in the playoffs, but your 3-5 would prevent them from getting there.
This is what I'm scared of, and why I'd be hesitant to part with the ridiculous package the Jays are demanding.

The Brewers are 4th in the NL in runs after being mediocre last year (7th). The Cubs are 12th after easily leading the league last year. I'd tend to think the Cubs as more likely to have a 2nd half surge of offense.

The Brewers certainly could win the Central with Halladay (hell, they might be able to win it without him, that division just doesn't impress right now) but they've got too many holes for me to consider them a clear cut favorite with Halladay, especially since you consider if they got Halladay, it would likely force the other 2 teams to action as well.

Now, if Halladay were to come to Milwaukee and go all Sabathia on the place, that's a different story, but that's not exactly a realistic expectation.

I don't know how realistic a Sabathia-like expectation is. Halladay's got a 2.73 ERA in the AL East. That's like a 0.01 ERA in the NL Central.

Fair enough.

Basically, the Brewers, having scored 4 fewer runs than they've given up, are the epitome of a .500 team right now. Even if I let an addition of Halladay run them to say an 88-90 win team, which I think is generous, I don't see it as terribly unlikely that either the Cubs or Cards wins up at or above that range.

Like it was said before, the Brewers will be crap after Prince leaves so why not go for it now.

How about Hardy for Bucholz and then Bucholz lowrie and someone for Halladay.

How about we include Mike Burns in any deal?

Burns, Hall, and Gerut for Halladay?

Not a bad debut for Lopez. 4 for 4, a triple, and a walk.
