Aramis probably should already be playing first base.  And his defense will likely deteriorate further throughout his three-year contract.  But, assuming the Brewers don't re-sign Fielder or lock down another first baseman, having the flexibility to move him to first should his fielding become too poor makes this a decent signing for the Brewers.  Makes a lot more sense for them than he would have for the Angels or Phillies.

Casey McGehee traded to Pittsburgh for reliever Jose Veras.

3x12 for Ramirez seems fine to me. Career .280.340.500 hitter. Odd that he didn't want to stay with the Cubs after refusing to be traded.
Someone on BB tonite last summer talked about how some players just don't want to be traded during the season due to family or personal reasons... The whole uprooting thing is easier in the offseason to set up. I think it was Kruk?

Ya possibly, I think I read a quote though about not wanting to leave because he was content being a Cub. "Its just a big happy family." or something like. But whatever...

Contract details from Ken Rosenthal:

A. Ramirez deal with #Brewers: $6M in 12, $10M in 13, $16M in 14, $4M buyout on mutual option for 15. $6M deferred in third year.

Reports out that the Brewers have won the negotiating rights to Japanese OF Norichika Aoki, for $2.5M. I'm guessing this guy's bat won't make anyone forget Prince Fielder.

Apparently those reports were premature, as the process is not final. Announcement expected this Thursday.

Or today, according to mlbtraderumors.com, the league announced today that the Brewers had won the posting bid, and will work Aoki out in Arizona before deciding whether to sign him.

In the "If you can't trust them who can you trust?" department, TMZ is reporting that Braunie's failed test was the result of some medication he is taking. TMZ says its sources are "directly connected with Major League Baseball". Which may mean someone in Braun's camp, for all I know.

Brewers sign Cesar Izturis to a minor league deal with spring training invite... same deal for lefty reliever Juan Perez.

Will Carroll is speculating about some kind of deal whereby MLB agrees to dismiss the "adverse analytical result" based on questions about the testing procedure on Braun in exchange for Braun entering the "accelerated testing" program. If Braun was clean for some period (probably one year), the original result would be thrown out. He says this has been done in at least one other case, though the issue in that case was chain of custody rather than the testing process itself.

Attention Ox...the Brewers trading McGehee to the Pirates REALLY makes your post look somewhat silly, doesn't it??? He's your Brewer 3B for at least the next 3 years bud...
