After allowing back-to-back-to-back homers on Opening Day, relief pitcher Ariel Pena has been DFA'd to make room for lefty Sam Freeman, who was DFA'd by Texas earlier in the week.

Brewers overwhelm Giants with string of relievers and hold on for a 4-3 victory to avoid a sweep in the season-opening series.

apparently overwhelm means something different in Wisconsin

For the Brewers, you mean.

Brewers had a chance to get over .500 for the first time since the 2014 season, but Wily Peralta turned in his third straight awful performance and the offense basically matched that, getting only one hit while striking out 13 times against Jaime Garcia, as the Cards took the series finale in St. Louis. Off to Pittsburgh.

Schedule not doing the Brewers any early favors, eh?

Are you kidding? We have four against the Twins next week, followed by the Phillies!
4/15/2016 3:06 PM
I mean, yeah, the Phillies suck. But are the Twins really bad enough to do much to make up for starting Giants, Astros, Cardinals, Pirates - at least 3 of which are generally picked to be postseason teams? And then after the aforementioned Twins and Phils, you finish out the month with your last full series against the Cubs, everybody's favorite pick to win the WS. It's a rough April. Finishing the last 2 days against Miami helps a little...

And yes, I am aware that the Twins are currently 0-9. I picked them to finish lower than most people did I think. Don't buy into that team. But they're not like the Phillies or the Braves...

Phils are playing well. It ain't no sure thing
4/15/2016 8:48 PM
they don't have to be playing all that well to beat the Brewers

Rookie CF Keon Broxton, recently featured in ESPN the Magazine as a sleeper fantasy pick with big SB potential but still hitless for the season, was sent down this weekend to make way for new fifth starter Zach Davies (replacing an injured Matt Garza in the rotation). Brewers currently carrying only four of, two of them lefty hitters. Probably not a situation that will last long.
