Just finished Larry Tye's SATCHEL, an excellent read, but Buck's I Was Right On Time is still the best tome on the topic. I have read that at least five times and referenced it often while reading Tye's book.

Catching up with some program reading for the upcoming exhibit at work while I wait for Rachel Maddow's Drift to arrive from Amazon.

Just finished reading 33 Men based on the dramatic rescue of the Chilean miners and The Pale Horseman by Bernard Cornwell.  That was a great historical fiction based on King Alfred and the Anglo Saxon wars.

Befitting my dotage and escape into a 2nd childhood I've just finished volume 6 of Brian Wood's Northlanders series - Thor's Daughter.    It's a graphic novel - comic book to those who disapprove.

I don't read a lot of these, but I'm interested in the Viking Era.  There's not a lot of affordable non-fiction works out there (I've read the main ones), not much fiction beyond Frans Bengtsson's The Long Ships.  What I most like about the series is the fiction is placed in the 'real world'.  The big story in Thor's Daughter is 'The Siege of Paris,' which took place in 885.

1776 by David McCullough...

Every high school student and teacher should read this amazing story. It starts in Cambridge MA and ends in Trenton NJ.

Revisiting an old favorite - Barbarians at the Gate.  I've been reading a lot of 19th Century US history lately, so I needed a break.
