Pilot Late Afternoon in America

Synopsis: After the defeat of Reagan in 1980 and aided by several scandals the Republican Party collapsed. The next 30 years America is run by Democrats (), People's Party (far ) and Constitution Party (Center). This is the tale of a group of people in Middletown 2009.

Cast:

Mr Will Nelson: (Steve Howey in the pilot and name is Billy, replaced by Billy Zane in the Series and name changed to Will). Married to Elizabeth Anne. Works for Multico the biggest most sensitive Corporation in the world.

Ms Elizabeth Anne Nelson: (Anne Best) Married to Will. also Works for Multico.

Anna Williams: (Sara Ramirez) Married to Donny, Mother to daughter Rainfall and son Diego. Stay at home mom who works part time at the Government Center.

Donny Williams: (Nick Frost) Married to Ann, Father to Rainfall and Diego. Donny is unemployed and has been for some time. On his 12th unemployment extension. Also makes money on side as repair man.

Anjali Patel: (Padma Lakshmi) Works as Escort for legal agency. Went to college with Anna and Elizabeth Ann.

Tyra Masis: (Dana Ivey) Works at the Government Center as the Regions Protocol Czar.

Rainfall Williams: (Chelsea Staub) Daughter to Donny and Anna. Teenager and student.

Diego Williams: (Michael Welch) Son to Donny and Anna. Teenager and Student.

Pilot:

Episode introduces all the people and their roles. Topics for this week: Donny finds out that he can get extra unemployment because of Anna's Mexican herritage. Anna trys to buy black market pork to make Chalupa. The nelsons apply to Czar Masis for permission to have a child. Rainfall gets written up by her schools counselor for not accepting birth control.

Series Trivia:

Steve Howey was originally cast for the Role of Billy Williams, and appeared in the Pilot, but felt he would be better as Tank in 100 people in the mall. When Billy Zane replaced him they thought the name Billy was wrong and changed it to Bill.

Episode 7 was created before episode 6, for creative reasons

episode 1:

The Nelson's are put on a waiting list for having a child because of their Anglo ancestry. Czar Masis informs them that if they pass an education class on the history of Caucasian violence they will be re-considered in 3 months. Elizabeth Ann is having trouble at work because her production efficiency levels are making other employees feel bad about themselves.

Anna Williams is promoted at work after she casually lets slip to her boss that she is the only Latino, Female, handed, Mother that drives a bike to work. Bill is having problems with his new fix it business as most people just throw things away and get a new one. He finds that there is a market for old radios that do not have the y-chip that allows Government oversight of content.

Anjali has a "meeting" with a soldier who admits to her that as a member of the military he likes to be disciplined and made to confess his "Crimes against society".

Diego runs into trouble at school. He and some of his friends are seen violating the schools zero tolerance against violence policy by playing touch football. The Principal was going to let him go with a warning, but when he mentions that his team won he is suspended for 1 week for actually keeping score.

episode 2

Halloween Party Episode. Williams are hosting the big Halloween party. Will wants to dress up as a hobo, but Elizabeth Anne is worried that it might be insensitive to homeless people. Elizabeth Anne also worries that someone may mistake her Fergie outfit for an escort and that it might upset Anjali. Anjali always goes as herself, she wears costumes for a living and refuses to do it on holidays. Donny comes dressed as a Christian, with signs attacking women, gays and Halloween. Everyone gets a big laugh that someone could actually be a Christian! Anna her Original costume in the dryer a bit too long and it shrunk. Forced to improvise she went with a sheet with holes in it to be a ghost. She was stopped on the way by the local police and informed that she might be offensive to African Americans and could not wear it. They eat Pumpkin Tofu and bean sprouts and play the home version of "Who wants to win a wheel barrel full of Dollars (Inflation). Rainfall gets in to some hot water at school. She was tutoring some of the younger kids in Math, but was informed by a Teacher that she could not impose absolutes on the kids, and that 1+3 did not have to equal 4 if the kid did not feel emotionally tied to it.

episode 3

The Nelson family gets into trouble for not properly sorting recyclables. As Elizabeth Anne has a mark against her from an incident 2 years ago when she put a plastic bottle in a paper waste dispenser Will takes the blame and takes the "Waste disposal training class". Anjali has a "meeting" with a former professor of hers. He keeps expressing his joy that she has turned out so well. Donny is again turned down for employment. As a caucasian he is handicapped as the "400 years of oppression" against African Americans has not been matched. Anna is doing so well in her job that she now gets to do some errands for Czar Masis. Diego was given a C- on his history exam. When reviewing it with his teacher it was determined that he was using last years text book, and the new "Culturally sensitive Analysis" of history that were approved for this year were not included.

episode 4

Elizabeth Anne is called into the HR department. She has to agree to gender sensitivity training. Some of her co-workers heard her say that she enjoys dressing up for her husband during sex, and they felt she was encouraging the degradation of women. Will finds a new way to run a pocess in his department that will make them .005% more enviromentally efficent and is given an award. Anna finds that her promotion has caused her to be declared "Rich" and her tax rate jumps up. Anjali has a "meeting" with a former Religious leader who pays her to hear him give a Christian Sermon. Donny finds his side business is taking off, but he is worried that his neighbors may turn him in under the new "watch your good neighbor" policy that gives tax breaks to people who report anti-government activities. Rainfall is heard complaining about her parents making her clean her room, and is given a school appointed lawyer to sue her parents.

episode 5

A burglar breaks into the House of the Nelson's. Will, not noticing anything, bumps into him in the kitchen, making the burlar drop his gun. Will picks it up and uses it to hold the burglar before the police arrive. Under the Governments zero tollerance guns law he is fined for using a weapon in his home. Elizabeth Anne spooked by the incident asks her exercise coach if she knows any self defense techniques. She is told that she cannot teach any violence related classes, but she has some women over her house once a month for "Special step aroebics". Anjali is told that she is over her limit for Medical care this quarter, but is given a waiver when they find out it is just for another abortion. The Williams all go to visit Anna's grandmother in the home. on arrival they find out that a "Life Panel" has decided on "Late life options" that will cause her to no longer be a burden on society. Grandma lets everyone know that she is happy and wants to pass on. They all laugh at her stories about "The old Times". Diego talks to his parents about his Health class Analysis that determines that he must be misleading about their family, as there is no abuse, sexual assualt or other signs of disfunction. "Why cant we be normal and act abnormal" Diego asks Donny crying!

episode 6

Will gets a promotion and will spend a week at the Corporate HQ in Detroit. Makes joke about the last time he was in Detroit they still built cars there. Anna is a little lonely so she gets some wine and makes a big production out of paying the monthly bills...Health tax, Gas tax, home tax. Anjali is excited about a meeting with a Fraternity at her old Alam Mater, but them is not hired when they find out she pledged Phi Beta Phi! Sonny gets a full time job when he is shown on the local news installing a solar energy panel on a neighbors house. Czar Masis herself hires him to make the region more "Green". When Rainfall and some of the other popular girls start a trend of going to gym class topless like the boys sometimes do, she starts a feud between the Gym teachers.

episode 7

Winter Solstice episode. Elizabeth Anne and Will decide to leave town during their mandated vacation time. With the people's revolutions in Central America and across Europe only Japan still has tourist access. They try to buy a Japanese language tape, but when it is discovered that they do not speak Spainish they are denied the purchase. Anjali, concerned about the Violence in India, thinks about visiting her family, but is less excited about the idea when her family wants her to meet a "Nice New Dehli boy". Anna is planning the meal for Solstice but she is unsure of what foods would be considered proper, so she makes an Appointment with Czar Masis to get guidance. Donny is decorating the house with natural decorations and accidently puts up a large pine tree...The whole neighberhood gets a laugh out of it! Diego is in hot water when he fails his sex ed final: "Identify and explain 12 unique sexual techniques that do not involve male female copulation".

episode 8

Czar Masis calls Anna in to a conference. She subtly mentions that if the Democrats lose the upcoming Election it might Cost her the Czar position, and in turn could cause Donny to lose his new job. Anna starts wearing Democratic support buttons. Her switch from apolitical is noticed by Donny and Anjali. Donny does'nt really care, as he was happy in his part time fix it biz. Anjali is bothered because she is a solid people's Party supporter. Elizabeth Anne and Will have always been secret Constitution party members, but they always act like they are not into politics. They tell everyone that a meeting of the local party group in their house is actually a sex swap party, to save embarrassment. Anjali has a meeting with a member of the People's Party. He is so impressed with her knowledge of party beliefs he offers her a job in the party. During History Class Rainfall becomes depressed because of all the "Atrocities" that white Americans have committed against the world. She cheers up after her teacher informs her that she is part Hispanic and therefore a victim of the pain of the white man as well a guilty of benefiting from it.

1 hour season finale

The Election draws near. Elizabeth Anne is almost caught with Constitution party literature. She passes it off as a National Enquirer. Will's promotion is causing him to question his support for the Constitution party. He and co-worker get drunk and he talks about it to him, using his marriage as a metaphor. The co-worker becomes concerned about their marriage. Anjali is bothered that her party job is just as an escort, and at less pay. She decides that she has to decide if the party is worth it, part of cliffhanger. Anna leads a rally for the Democrats at the park. She stumbles through her speech, not really knowing what the Democrats stand for. Donny hurts his hand while installing a solar panel. He finds his Health Insurance isn't as good as when he was unemployed and has to wait for hours. Diego is in some trouble. He was at a Soccer game and called out to some of the other school kids that they were going to lose. The Principal called him aside and warned him of the school policy about teasing. The next day his actions were on govtube.com, a web site controlled by the government, where people can secretly report anti-government actions, by posting videos of it. Donny, Anna and Diego had to appear before the School Board. Diego is informed that he could be expelled and have to go to re-do training school. The decision is part of the cliffhanger. Everyone is at the Williams house to watch the returns.

And with 87% of the vote in we are predicting...Cliffhanger!
