I keep hearing about this Maine/Hart deal. What the hell are the Mets thinking? This is an incredibly crappy deal.
Maine, despite being plagued by injuries, is still an above-average starting pitcher. He had a fairly high 4.43 ERA last year, but he was very unlucky, because his opponent batting was .224/.318/.358. Best case: a solid #2 starter. Worst case: injured all season. Most likely: So hard to predict injuries, but 130 IP at less than 4.00 ERA is not crazy to ask for.
Hart had one nice (not spectacular) year a couple of year ago, but was way below average for an OF last year. What on earth do the Mets want a guy like this for? You can pick up guys this good for almost nothing in FA without giving up one of your starters. Best case: 20 HR 20 SB OPS below .900. Worst case: BA below .220 in a brutal hitting park. Most likely: .260 hitter with about 10 HR.
Not nearly worth it.
