Actually, if you look at fangraphs, Baines and Santo have pretty similar numbers.

Alright - you boys can stop with your jawing about which Chicago team sucks, I'll settle this. They BOTH suck. There. Happy?

Except Santo actually played defense, very well, and didn't need the DH to lengthen his career and pad his numbers.

We know they both suck - we don't need a fan of a team that hasn't won it all in almost 50 years to tell us that.

Santo played defense......marginally. Played 3B to a clip of a .954 fielding percentage over his career. In 11 of the 13 relevant years he had (season he played at least 100 games) he had 20 or more errors at 3B. Statistically speaking, in almost the same amount of relevant time, Robin Ventura had a .958 fielding percentage. In 1125 less plate appearances, Ventura had just 48 less HRs, 149 less RBI's, 132 less runs scored, the exact same OBP, 33 less BB's, and 27 less 2b's. If you want to compare apples to apples, your Schlubby hero is more like a slightly above replacement level 3B that even as a Sox fan I couldn't argue deserves to sniff the hall.

Are you aware of such concepts as league averages, normalization, etc.?

Sanyo played exceptional defense. Typical of a Sox fan to be wrong about something baseball-related.

That had as much to do with them losing as I did.
