Silver King final update:

Pitcher Role % G W-L SV IP ERA OAV WHIP K/9 BB/9 $
Silver King '88 (R) 74 (100) 88 50-23 0 644.1 3.07 .258 1.21 2.26 1.61 29.12M

Team won the division with 93 wins and lost in the Division Series to a 114 win juggernaut. A somewhat successful experiment but nothing extraordinary. I don't think I'd use him again in an OL.
Why not? Not enough money for the offense?

Nah, my offense surprisingly ranked 4th in runs scored and 5th in hits. It's just tedious. Too much micromanaging to make it worth it for an OL team.

Amen!

25 games left in my Silver King season and starting with the PM2 game I'm going to trot him out to the mound every day, even though he'll be in the low 70s or worse stamina-wise.  He's had a pretty good season thus far -- 56-10 with a 2.94 ERA with Coors as the home park -- but the playoffs seem unlikely, as does the wins record (he'd have to win 21 of the 25 to tie it).  Nothing to lose now so let his arm fall off, for all I care...

My Silver King finished 69-18, and got to 750.1 IP pitching a lot of games tired (69-80%).  ERA of 3.14 was pretty good, considering the many fatigued starts and the home park.  I might try to go for the record again, if his salary's gone down enough after the February update.

We did have the best offense in the league by far (1201 runs -- 2nd best scored 986), and of our 8 starters in the field four set Performance History records:

1959 Tito Francona
1996 Jim Eisenreich
1899 Nap Lajoie
1920 Charlie Hollocher

My own result from attempting a Silver King 700 inning run.
Pitcher Role % G W-L SV IP ERA OAV WHIP K/9 BB/9 $
Silver King '88 (R) Starter #1 100 88 30-37 0 705.0 2.91 .263 1.21 2.39 1.61 29.62M

My team was in a $110mil theme league (73 wins and 89 losses) so I did have advantage in budget there, but it is a good start towards an $80mil OL team. Just need to plan that one out better. In the theme league, King got rank 1 for the Cy Young and Silver Slugger awards. Started 85 games, had rank 1 in complete games (42, next highest was 13), shutouts (7), wins and losses, and innings pitched (next highest was 421).

I suppose that isn't too bad for a new prospect like me. Perhaps I'll get the hang of this yet.

I'm trying for the pitcher wins record (still 77) again with Silver King. Through 10 starts his record is 10-0 with a 0.82 ERA. He's got 4 shutouts, one of them starting at 75% (the only back-to-back start he's had so far). I couldn't ask for a better opening 10 games from him.

I'll post updates as the season progresses...

Forgot about this thread.

From a recently finished 120M theme league:
Pitcher Role % G W-L SV IP ERA OAV WHIP K/9 BB/9 $
Silver King '88 (R) Starter #1 100 84 38-34 0 728.0 2.41 .237 1.13 2.48 1.92 29.91M

Finally got over 700 innings out of him.

Just curious....

What would happen if you built a pitching staff of Silver King and a minimum of 5-6 SP's who, in real life, have between 30 and 50 IP's? Have them listed as Starters 1 through 5 or 6 and set their pitch count to 15 (20 max). Then have Silver the only arm in the bullpen. Wouldn't he get every win that the team gets since the "Starter" didn't go five innings?

I think you have to select at least a 40 IP min for starters.

Pitches, not IP, no?

Yes, any pitcher in a designated Starter role has a minimum pitch count of 40.
2/22/2017 9:29 AM
Okay, lets say you put them all on 40 pitches max - but set their "pull" setting at "5" - how about then? Over 162 games, I can see where he could approach 6 or 7 hundred innings minimum - and qualify for nearly if not all of his teams wins. Am I wrong for thinking this way?

2/22/2017 11:17 AM
I guess that could work in theory, but if King is appearing in relief in virtually every game, he'd run into appearance fatigue and still be pitching at much less than 100% for all his appearances after the appearance fatigue kicked in, which would probably happen early. It is a strategy that would vulture wins, but maybe not a winning strategy.
2/22/2017 11:29 AM
If I remember correctly, appearance fatigue hits when a pitcher pitches in 2/3 of his team's games - does anyone else remember more precisely? So he could get in about 110 games, 6 innings, could easily get to 700, but aside from the low IP starters you would need at least one other reliever able to appear in 50 games for it to work, so either one more 300 IP starter in relieve role with around 6 IP/G, or two of this kind of starter with 150 IP/162.

Or am I calculating wrong? The idea is intriguing though.
2/22/2017 2:20 PM
How harsh is appearance fatigue? If you started the 900IP John Clarkeson in all 162 games, would he be pitching them at 50-60%, or at like, 12%?
