How in the blue fukk is LeBron going to end up in Dallas?

Borrowing off the Simmons theory which makes sense.....

Lebron says to Cleveland: 'I want to play in XXXXX. Work out a sign and trade - make it happen.'

Cleveland says 'F U'.

Lebron says 'OK, I'll walk to YYYYY and you won't get sh!t'.

Cleveland does a sign and trade.

Allen has a good 3 years if these playoffs are any indication. He is an excellent 3 point shooter, a solid leader, and doesn't fade away down the stretch in games. He is the deadeye big game player the Hawks need and quite frankly just don't have.

Perkins is a siginficant upgrade over Zaza. Perkins at least can muscle Howard around and make it at least a little difficult on him. If your the Hawks, you have to find someone in the paint that can do something to Howard since you have to face him all the time. It also allows Horford to spend a lot more time at his more natural PF position and a rotation of Perkins, Horford, and Smith at the 4/5 positions would be among the best in basketball for the next ten years (if they kept them all).

the draft is no more of a sure thing than any other method of creating a winning team in the NBA, name one team that nails the draft every year

all of these things rely on so many other variables that one tool cant do it by itself

If im getting 2 out of the group of JJ/Amare/Boozer/Gay and im in a market where paying the luxury tax isnt a concern then paying them is a solid move, much better than sitting back and doing nothing.

specifically in regards to the Knicks, if they were to get 2 of those guys they would then be a lot more attractive destination for 2011 and might be able to work out a forced trade or sign and trade with somebody like Melo by using Curry's expiring contract

signing nobody leave them twiddling their thumbs

and i would definitely not offer sign and trade contracts to any of those guys, the extra money and extra year arent worth it

somebody correctme if im wrong, but heres the salary breakdown for a max deal with a new team for this off-season with a salary cap of $56.2M approx

Max deal is 25% of the salary cap(again, if im wrong let me know)

Year 1 $14.1M approx

Year 2 $15.228M approx

Year 3 $16.356M approx

Year 4 $17.484M approx

Year 5 $18.612M approx

Also take into account that the salary cap will almost certainly be higher in 5 years. my guess would be in the $65M range, and those 2 players are only taking up a little more than half your salary cap space, not a death sentence even as they age

so Lebron, Wade, and Bosh all fall in the 30% range, which would put the starting salary at 16.86 million (that is greater then 105% their previous salary, so that is the max). If they all take their option for one more year, they could in theory make significantly more money next summer.
5/12/2010 11:55 AM
i do think Wade and LBJ will sign 3 year extensions, most money up front while leaving them flexibility down the road and keeping pressure on their teams to compete

cba is up before the 11-12 season so these sorts of things could change. I could actually see Lebron not opting out this year, playing the last year at 17.5 million (or so), and then re-signing next summer with the full max and starting at 18.4 million (or so). That way he ensures a huge contract and he gives the Cavs one more shot.

Dallas can offer like 5 cents on the dollar- I think they would be content to just let him walk instead of shipping him there.

If it's a straight addition to what we have now (which implicitly means keeping Lee) - I'm all for it - which is consistent with my previous posts.

I guess my view of FA is that unless you have a chance to grab a top 5-10 player, it's best used to aquire complementary pieces; it can grab the pieces to put around the nucleus - but the nucleus needs to be in place already.
5/12/2010 1:05 PM
i respect that firehawk, but with how much cap space the Knicks have, combined with basically no young talent and none likely coming via the draft anytime soon, the chance to add guys like JJ/Boozer/Amare is their best option

just as the Celtices became much more attractive destination for KG after Ray Allen got there, so would NY be much more attractive with 2 of those guys

then they could start making trades that add to their team instead of having to give so much up to get something done
5/12/2010 1:10 PM
Why can't Joe Johnson be a complimentary piece? Why does he have to be classified as the nucleus? He has more value than 2 complimentary pieces at half the price each.
5/12/2010 1:15 PM
I've said it before - if you're not a contender when you sign JJ, you're probably going to regret it because of the cost associated with him- unless you're one of these teams that has a ton of cap space and you add pieces (i.e. - if NY keeps Lee, adds someone else and adds JJ - or if Chicago does something).
