I can't be serious with the MVP comment??!?!

What are you smoking crack?

Look at the season he posted at the tender age of 26 and get back to me:

He wins the MVP, Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, leads the American League in slugging pct, ops, ops+, and all of baseball in batting average and on base pct. all at the age of 26 with no reason to think he'll fall off.

You are a fool

You are a fool if you think winning an MVP award means jack squat. Oh man Terry Pendleton must have been the greatest 3rd baseman ever just because he won an MVP.

And I'm not saying the guy can't hit. I'm saying he's not worth $23m dollars a year. Apparently, your thick skull can't process that information.

I think its funny people are acting like this guy is the 2nd coming of Babe Ruth. Here's some brain candy for you:

^ That unreadable stat line is 1997 Mike Piazza. He must be the greatest catcher ever huh?
3/22/2010 1:38 AM
God you're stupid.

I'll humor you however. You keep stating winning the MVP means very little, actually in the estimation of hundreds of baseball panelists more informed than you it means that said player was the best player in his respective league for that season. Now then, were Pendleton, or even Kirk Gibson's MVP seasons anywhere near Mauer's season statistically? I'll answer that for you, no.

You're simply ignoring the most important and relevent points made here such as his actual numbers (not Terry Pendleton's), his age and Minnesota's lot in baseball in general and simply posting dumb things.

Yes, you're a fool.

Yeah, I knew who it was, and yes Piazza was one of the best catchers ever. Are you serious?

Its like you're assuming that signing a high profile out of town free agent is a good thing?

Mauer, "in town" big time free agent.

What are the odds he would sign the same contract or a different free agent his caliber that wasn't already a Twin? Plays a factor here.

..I guess I made a little too much sense for skonley...

You made too much sense for all of us. Well done.

Are you contending the Mauer contract/my statements?
3/22/2010 8:43 AM
Mauer is getting paid to be the face of the franchise. Possibly to go down in the Minnesota history books as the greatest Twin ever. The dollars that can be attached to that can't be counted. Also, if I'm not mistaken, 35 is a death-year for catchers. It's when their production falls off the table.

35? How/where did you come up with such a specific age?
3/22/2010 10:25 AM
I didn't make it up. I've read it somewhere. Bench retired, Piazza stopped hitting, Berra quit catching full-time. There was a long list of catchers at that age whose production fell off big-time. However, to be fair, I think it had as much to do with games caught as it did age.
3/22/2010 10:36 AM
Who said you made it up?

Now I have to wonder...DID you make it up? I have a tough time believing you know how to read.
