I'm genuinely surprised that the new owners didn't immediately fire Hendry. He has failed, miserably, at any and all criteria a GM can be judged on. The good moves he made are no more than distant memories under an avalanche of horrendous decisions.

One reason - $$$$ - they didn't want to eat the 3 years remaining on his contract.

Cubs sign Carlos Pena for one year, $10M. The good news...only one year, we didn't trade for James Loney and Pena has nice upside if he can rebound. The bad news...he's declined for four straight years and whiffed a ton. He does walk a lot and is good with the glove too.

Not a bad deal, usually one Hendry can't wrap his head around and complete.   He should rebound a little at Wrigley, even with a .196 BA he still got on base more than Soriano.

You guys are really digging for something to feel good about.   10m for a guy who has hit .247, .227 and .196 while averaging 160 whiffs in 140 games in the same time period.      Dude makes Lee look like a contact hitter.
