Back in the day you could sign someone to a ML contract, then drop him from the 40...so he only burned one year.  They plugged that hole...which had been awesome for rule-v purposes if you had a deep minors.  Now, anytime you remove someone from the 40 they have to pass through waivers first.
Yeah, I would go with BLE here.  I don't know much about having deep minors.

Even so, I'd be surprised if he's put two months together like that more than once since 2006.  I remember reading some scouts in spring training saying that if he was able to maintain the approach he showed there all season, he'd hit over .300 and run away with the MVP.
