Who is the Absolute Best Owner in WIS?In order to be considered the best, you need to have success over a broad range of different themes. This tournament will absolutely determine who the best WIS owner is. The winner will have had to put together 12 solid teams over a 5-month time period. Serious WIS owners only. Here's how it will work.
* I will limit the field to
96 owners, but we may go with only
72. In order to guarantee your spot in this Championship Event, you will need to purchase a
$15 GC. See below for instructions on purchasing a GC.
* In round 1, there will be 6 different themes we'll each be involved in. All twenty-four leagues (4 * 6 = 24) will be started at approximately the same time. Points will be awarded based on wins and playoffs success. The standard point formula will be used. Points = Regular season wins + playoff wins + 5 points for making the playoffs + 5 points for each playoff round won.
* The top 24 owners in cumulative points from round 1 (regardless of which leagues they were in) will advance to round 2, the final round. In round 2, there will be another 6 themes (different from the first six themes). The same points formula will be used in round 2. Round 1 results will not be completely ignored in the final score. The weighting will be 1/3 for round 1 and 2/3 for round 2.... In other words, the cumulative round 1 score will be divided by 2 and added to the round 2 score to determine the Best Owner in WIS.
* The leagues will not be determined randomly, but the divisions within each league will be. Once 72 owners have purchased the $15 GC, then I will use a combination of owner ratings and WIS Championship final results to determine the seedings and the league alignments for round 1.
* The formula to rank the owners will be based on overall winning percentage, and championships won. Also, if you participated in the 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and/or 2009 WIS Championship(s), then how you fared in those will also come into play (more weight given to more recent performances).
* In the event that one or more of the top 24 owners from round 1 decide not to enter round 2, then the next best owners(s) from round 1 will advance. In case of ties, the tie-breakers will be (1) regular season wins (2) playoff wins (3) best single team overall point total (4) second best single team overall point total, etc.
* As far as prizes, we'll have $1440 in gift certificates plus admin will be adding $300 (assuming 96 teams). That's $1740 worth of GC to distribute. All teams advancing to round 2 will be guaranteed at least $30 in GC.
Prize Structure (based on 96 teams)

Prize Structure (based on 72 teams)

3rd: $120 8th: $60 13-24: $15
4th: $100 9th: $50 25-26: $10 (consolation)
5th: $90 10th: $40
The team with the best regular season record in each of the six round #1 themes will each receive $15 (ties split).
The prize is nice but what we're all really after is the recognition as being the
BEST.
* As far as the themes go, different cap levels will be used. Most will center around $80M to $120M with at least one low cap (<80) and one high cap (>120) included. There will not be any drafts in round 1. There will be at least one but not more than two drafts in round 2.
If you are interested, please post here. I don't expect that we'll start playing any games for at least 6 weeks, as it will take a bit of time to fill the league, create rosters, verify rosters, etc.
** The themes for Round 1 can be found HEREThe first roster deadline (2 rosters completed) will be mid July. All six rosters will be due by the end of July.
