If he has options, he can be put in the minors. If he was a BL-salaried player, he might not like it. You can put that guy in the minors with no problem. If it's before R5, you'll have to add to 40 though.

I've never seen a player remark change like that. I usually offer an extra year with a 50% increase for that year(2x3.1 plus 1 at 4.5 but make the percentages work) and they sign. I'd try 2x3.3 and see what happens.
