I am getting a fatal exception error when trying to open, downloaded the 1.6.1 and no difference, anyone have a pointer?

Can you send me everything that the error says?

No, you have to cut and paste them yourself.

All my data jumped to 1.7.1. Nice to not have to retype all the formulas and potential sentences...

Your equations, bold columns, filters, potential lines/values, and season history are all stored in the config.ini file.  You do not need to grab the new config.ini file, you can keep your old one.  The main reason I updated it was because new users were getting confused by the old GUESS equations that were in there.

I didn't download the new config.ini file, I just downloaded the 1.7.1 file and none of my equations are there.

If you put the 1.7.1 file in the same folder as an existing config.ini, it should've read that, and your equations would be there.  I don't know what could've happened to make it not read that or overwrite it.  I'm guessing your bold columns, filters, and potentials are all gone too?

Yes, they were, but I just reopened it and lo and behold, everything is there.  Thanks.
