Anyone ever use him before? He probably just gave me one of the best seasons I've ever gotten out of a closer

44/47 saves (though his last BS came in a nothing game after we clinched), .192 OAV, 1.62 ERA, 2 HR.  He did walk just over 3/9IP, but limited the damage nicely.

Performance history is pretty good, but it's not hard to find a good closer for $3M.  7 seasons in history with an average BB/9 of 4.62.  That's pretty scary but he gives up so few hits he gets away with it a lot.

Sorry for the formatting, I used him as a Setup A. 6-0-9, 1.70 ERA, .152 OAV, 0.99 WHIP with 4 HRs in Baker Bowl in an OL.

From the same team, when you consider the cost difference, it made Messersmith's performance even stand out more:

T. Abernathy '67 R 5 0 82 0 0 0 0 2 114.1 59 29 23 4 51 97 6 0 0 1.81 0.147 0.96 RP Baker Bowl

Also used as a Long A. 5-0 1.81 ERA, .147 OAV, 0.96 WHIP, also 4 HRs alowed.

He can be good, but I don't consider him a great value at $37,000 $/ip. As we know, 1968 was the "year of the pitcher" and he doesn't normalize all that well (i.e. RL-OAV .157 with OAV# of .173 and OAV+ of of 146). Very solid to be sure, but his bb/9# of 4 is pretty scary at his cost. a lot of his value can come from the stadium you chose. Compare him to the '07 Soriano, the 1942 Rigney, and even teh 1966 Wilhelm (or the 2010 Oswalt) who walk far fewer batters.
