Quietman, I do appreciate that sacrifice that was made for me but those soldiers died long ago and those freedoms exist and would exist regardless of the last 60 years of military conflict the United States has engaged in. I can understand that once you are over there and the s*** hits the fan the last thing I would be thinking about is why Im there. However, before I ever enlisted I would be questioning the motives and that is what would lead me to never go over there to die needlessly. That is why recruitment is targeted at those who do not know any better and that is what I am trying to say. People need to stop supporting this broken system and refrain from enlisting because it is under false pretense. You are led to believe that you are fighting for my freedom but in actuality you are fighting for someone else personal gain and greed.
Zedicus, you mention Rome which I find very interesting. America is the modern day Rome. It wasn't the "do gooders" that brought down the Roman empire, it was the corruption and greed of its rulers. Constantly trying to conquer and control for wealth and they stretched themselvs to thin and the system imploded. Its rulers were more concerned about there personal wealth and power just as our are today. The Roman empire is a perfect example of how it doesnt matter how strong your military might is if the core of society is rotted. Also, you talk of how they gave there soldiers a pension and tract of land, well that is great. But isnt that also a form of that same socialism that you guys preach so much against? When the government starts providing land to its citizens that my friend is socialism, which is the very thing which keps us Americans up at night hiding under the covers. I find it very ammusing that you would bring that up. How are you both ashamed and proud that our country "protects my kind"? If anything this country shuns my kind and it is only the Constitution which protects me, a Constitution that hasnt been threatened by any foriegn powers in a very long time. The only thing I see which threatens our Constitution is the post Reagan neo-conservative.
Once again, when someone can explain to me how exactly the military industrial complex has protected my freedoms the last 60 years I will gladly admit being wrong and stop with these posts. Until then, whenever you talk of how my freedoms have been protected in such an abstract way I will continue to point out the falsehoods in your government fed propoganda. I am no fool, it are those who refuse to acknowledge the cold hard facts who are the fools
